i feel like yt is ready for this

what anime are you watching currently?
what anime have you watched in the past?
do you have favorites?
do you have some you hate?
you can talk about anime movies as well
the rules are very loose

discuss in this thread!

i haven't watched anime for a while

i'm very particular about what i watch, especially with series
the series that i have watched and loved are:

ESPECIALLY
neon genesis evangelion
legend of galactic heroes

ALSO
cowboy bebop
serial experiments lain

i've started lots of shows and not finished them, the one i liked the most was death note but i binged like 20 episodes in a terrible hangover and then never went back to it

MOVIES:

ninja scroll (my first anime and favourite)
all of ghibli
akira
angel egg
mind games
paprika and perfect blue and millennium actress

currently i'm watching fairy tail and your lie in april

fairy tail is the type of anime i usually would avoid
there are literally 100s of episodes
and that usually means the stakes keep getting raised to unfortunately ridiculous degrees
i'm only 10 episodes in so far, but i'm hopeful they avoid that trope

it's about wizards in a early 20th ish century world technology wise and they belong to these guilds and they take on jobs from normies

check it out on pretty much any streaming platform

your lie in april is already kinda brutal and i'm only 3 episodes into it
it's about musicians in high school and one of them had a truly f-cked up childhood and he has lost the ability to play
the other one might also have weird demons from her past, but she seems on the surface bright and sunny and she plays the violin like a rock star

i would also recommend this
find it on netflix

King of the hill is my favorite anime
11 months ago - Friday 6/8/18 - 7:40:14 PM EST (GMT-5)
i'm not gonna spoiler this because it's a 13 year show at this point

all of death note is generally good, but the first half is definitely much better than the second half
once L dies it drops in quality a bit
they just couldn't recapture the magic of L and Kira trying to outwit each other

did you watch the recent one about the abyss disappears? i started that one but got sidetracked
11 months ago - Friday 6/8/18 - 7:41:10 PM EST (GMT-5)
L didn't die yet when i stopped

he was my favourite
11 months ago - Friday 6/8/18 - 7:41:57 PM EST (GMT-5)
i'm so mad that he died! jesus christ
do i need to pick it up again to get mad
11 months ago - Friday 6/8/18 - 7:46:15 PM EST (GMT-5)
are you talking about made in abyss?
if so, yes i watched a couple of episodes
i should probably go back and keep watching, but i too got sidetracked

you should definitely get at least to that point
it's soooo good
even if some of the death note logic goes a bit off the rails
11 months ago - Friday 6/8/18 - 7:46:41 PM EST (GMT-5)
i dunno if i want to now i've been spoiled...
11 months ago - Friday 6/8/18 - 7:47:41 PM EST (GMT-5)
made in the abyss was the show i was thinking of, yes
it looks promising but for some reason i only did like 4 episodes before i moved onto other things
11 months ago - Friday 6/8/18 - 7:54:02 PM EST (GMT-5)
oops sorry!

i wasn't a huge fan of the way the characters look in made in abyss, so that was probably a big reason why i let myself get sidetracked

if i don't like the look of an anime, it's hard for me to watch no matter how good it supposedly is
that's why i've watched none of netflix's original anime
they all have this weird, terrible cg look to them

as for what i've watched in the past 6 months or so...
i can't recommend one punch man enough

as someone who can't really stand the dbz or bleach type show where their original struggles basically become irrelevant because the main characters become overpowered and the enemies they face have to continually be the biggest, baddest enemies ever

one punch man perfectly subverts that by just making him perfectly overpowered and unbeatable to begin with
it's more about the struggles he goes through having that kind of power than the actual fights

i finally finished durarara a few weeks ago
it focuses on the town of ikebukuro (a district in tokyo, but they call it a "town") and the different characters that inhabit said town
there are "main" characters in this show, but they aren't necessarily the focus the entire time
you more follow a large cast of characters and their lives in this city

i don't think there was a single character i would call unnecessary in that show

oh! i also wanted to talk about a movie i watched recently called Your Name

this came out either last year or the year before last and it's really good
it's about these two kids who swap bodies every once in a while and they don't know each other since they live in completely different places, but it's about them trying to figure out what's going on

there is some of the unfortunate fan service unfortunateness that anime creators can't seem to resist putting in their works since they show a guy going to a girl's body, but i've gotten pretty good at ignoring that

i feel like this thread will just be me talking into the void

i saw your name
my one anime friend insists it's the greatest movie ever made
i thought it was ok

the characters were nice and it looked nice and had a comfy vibe
11 months ago - Saturday 6/9/18 - 11:15:22 AM EST (GMT-5)
i think it was the same guy who did five centimeters per second which i liked even more
11 months ago - Saturday 6/9/18 - 11:16:30 AM EST (GMT-5)
greatest movie ever made?
it's not even the greatest anime movie ever made

your lie in april is about as close to misery p-rn as anime gets
which isn't saying much, but with each episode the tragedy of the characters' lives is revealed piece by piece
10 months ago - Monday 7/2/18 - 11:54:40 PM EST (GMT-5)
I watched that at a rough point in my life, and it was a bad decision, bruh.
10 months ago - Tuesday 7/3/18 - 12:00:05 AM EST (GMT-5)
yeah, i can imagine
definitely not what i was expecting based on how bright and colorful the cover art was

i usually don't binge anime and when i do it's because whatever i'm watching is really f-cking good
