I guess maybe I'll make a thread for this to see if anyone else is watching.

so yeah it's a show set in 1900's new york in a hospital and the medicine is appropriately ridiculously f*cking gorey and interesting

and there's a black guy who's like the only black surgeon at the moment and everyone is period appropriately a massive racist and he's going kinda crazy

and clive owen is your standard intense drug addict genius surgeon guy but it's cool to see that guy at the point of history where surgery was basically just trial and error experimentation

and the setting is great and full of neat characters, even if a few of them do feel kind of like tropes

and it's all directed by steven soderbergh and looks freaking amazing and has a cool electronic soundtrack by clint mansell

I watched the first two episodes. It is pretty good.

Except for that god awful music that doesn't fit. By far the worst part about the show.

the very first time i heard the music, i was unsure. but it's grown on me a lot.

i like inappropriate period specific music in period stuff in general though. in this it seems to have a point though - the whole aesthetic is kinda cool and clinical and fits with the way it's filmed as well. instead of the usual soft filters and stuff for historical stuff, it's made to feel very clear and modern and i can dig it

I just pop a molly before I watch.

It makes it bearable.

so the first season just finished and i enjoyed it SO MUCH
it is a bit clumsy and obvious at times with the omg look at how crazy medical science was back then stuff, and some of the writing is a bit on the nose

but it is hands down the best filmed show i've ever seen, all the performances are f*cking outstanding and it's the most interesting world.

and omg medicine was crazy back then and it turns out removing people's teeth to treat mental illness was an actual thing

i still stand by my opinion that is the single most aesthetically interesting and pleasing tv show i've ever seen, in terms of the visuals and sound

My husband and I just finished the first season on hbo go, how's the second season shaping up? The hubs finds it interesting bc he's a doctor, and I keep asking him what parts of the crazy medical experimenting actually happened.

first episode was great, kind of a bit scene-setty though. catching us up on what's happened, setting the pieces for what's going to happen next
