The tough part about being obsessed with a group is the difficulty in choosing a favorite.

Right now I'm going to have to say Sublime is my favorite. There are just too many outstanding tracks there not to name it the best. Plus it's basically a grab bag of partial covers of old reggae tunes (Jailhouse being a Wailers tune, but the melody from it is from Tenor Saw's Roll Call; What I Got is stolen from Half Pint's "Lovin'"; Pawn Shop being a take on The Wailing Soul's "War Down On The Pawnshop", etc)

Robbin The Hood takes second place for me. It's probably got the most soul of any of their albums. It's also the most diverse, with reggae punk, rap, rock, ska, and blues being thrown together.

40 Ounces is third. It's the most fun of all of them. There are some tracks that bore me though (Hope is probably my least favorite Sublime song)

Secondhand Smoke is a bunch of then-unreleased songs, but they could have done better (did we need Garbage Grove?)

I may be one of the few who say this on here, but I don't have one, I am not a particular fan, even though song's like "Wrong Way" always amused me.

40 Oz is mine - that's in the top 5 of my favorite albums of all time. Perfection, not one bad song on it, not even one mediocre song!

I thought Robbin the Hood sucked - well sucked as much as Sublime can suck. And it's not because of the quality, the songs just weren't as good then, not as catchy. There's only 3 or 4 songs on that CD I really like, and two of those were made over much better on others
16 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Wednesday 1/7/04 - 7:08:44 PM EST (GMT-5)
Which 2 were those?

Don't Push, the secret track was on 40oz and Secondhand Smoke. What was the other one?

It's been awhile since I've listened to either, but 40 oz. to Freedom is my favorite, closely followed by Sublime.
I really liked 40 oz to freedom for the same reason you said you liked it... it was a fun album.

And then I thought that Sublime was cool because it seems like they were at their prime when they made it. Like a lot of bands, best at first. NOt to say they started doing worse as they went on. No, I don't mean that at all. But all I mean is they had some of their best tracks on that album... again, same reason as you.

I must say that while I absolutely love sublime... I'm gonna have to go with my first love, my first exposure to sublime, which is 40 oz.

I think that personally each and every album has it's good points and bad points. I love them each in different ways.

robbin i love bc it's so raw and it feels so emotional yet distracted. It's a coherent entity but such a mishmash of weirdness. it makes you feel one way one second and completely turns you around and makes you feel a completely different way with the next song. that's why i like that album.

Sublime I like for the reason that it's bradley's masterpiece. It's his final creation. It's his requiem so to speak. Sublime I enjoy on completely different levels than anny other of their albums. It's pure fun. Pure enjoyment. If I had to sum up the album with one quote it would be "Summertime and the livin's easy" and that's why i like that album. to be continued.

40 oz i like because it's feel good party music. It's music that anyone can appreciate. It's music that reminds me of times past, it's music that I can groove to or dance to or smoke to or just listen to and be distracted from it. It's so complex yet simple. It feels like it has such a grand scale. It feels so epic as a whole, but each song is so simple and complete on its own.

as far as the posthumous ones, eh.
I like acoustic, mostly bc of the fact that it's based on what is probably my fav. bootleg. firecracker lounge or whatever. (shut up stylee, i've heard it called so many different things. )

i like second hand smoke bc it's so raw and kinda powerful. Greatest hits blah. come on.

as far as their other bootlegs i've had a chance to really absorb and analyze, i won't bore you guys with that.

and that is my story.
fin.
