Smashing Pumpkins' frontman says the Oxford band are the definition of 'pomposity'
I'm not really interested in a feud between Corgan and whoever but - after initially thinking 'what a pretentious c*nt' - ha ctually makes a point in that interview. (One that goes quite well along that Most overrated bands thread.
"I'm not pissing on Rainbow. I'm not pissing on Deep Purple. But I'll piss on drating Radiohead, because of all this pomposity. This value system that says Jonny Greenwood is more valuable than Ritchie Blackmore. Not in the world I grew up in.""
Ok, Mr. Corgan. I don't really like you and your music but you do have a point there.

I don't know what to say that Corgan didn't.
I'm not sure the whole "I'll piss on Radiohead" was necessary, (or did I miss a feud where Jonny Greenwood said something similar about one of Corgan's bands?), however I am behind the point he's making.
This would be a good thing to link to in the "Most Overrated Bands" thread.
I'm just not a fan of people throwing around the term overrated when referring to music. Nothing is official, it's a matter of taste and opinion and that's it.

Who says Jonny Greenwood is more valuable?
He's making some sort of a point...I do agree that, if there is such a value system, there shouldn't be...
But then he goes on to say that Ritchie Blackmore is better than him and Jonny. For him, better = more valuable? So, is he saying a value system that agrees with his own views is the correct one? Probably...especially with the whole "Not in the world I grew up in".
I think Corgan is mainly
just coming off as annoying in this interview.
I don't see how Radiohead = pomposity....
The sense I get from Radiohead is that Radiohead is very against pomposity and that he's just misunderstanding Radiohead. If you take a close enough look, there is no pomposity.

I like both SP and Radiohead.
I would never rank either as the best band ever, though.
Neither is even in the running.

I'd say Corgan had a point if he didn't have a long history of unwarranted douchey pretensiousness himself. Like how both bands tried really hard after a couple albums to get all deep and conceptual and it pretty much fell flat because they just weren't that good. Further, it's like they knew their artsy was more fartsy and they tried to cover it with pretentious douchebaggery.
Fxck the both of 'em.
