My parents wanted me to go to church with them this morning to pray for the virus victims. I didn’t go and felt bad but it seems like it was just a way to make themselves feel better. If there is a God, then maybe God would stop the disease without waiting for us pray (beg) for help.

Are your parents Catholic?

Yes. It was very limited seating but they still wanted to go to church. Its fine if it makes them feel better, I guess. I just don't see the point.

Have you thought about this situation and the Revolation. I haven't read that book or an entire book but I've read some. I think this is what he wants to happen. Itachi said that when people come close to death or their final few moments then you see their true colors. I think that this whole virus is to show their personality's color.

I'm Baptist though. So I'm not going to say too much because I don't know much about Catholics and u don't wannaa say something to upset you but that is how I like to view this.

Everyone has to find what they believe in for themselves. Parents often steer a child to their beliefs and insist on it which serves zero value for the child as they turn into adults and come in contact with reality.

I'm Lutheran but don't always fall in line with what any particular religion teaches.

Catholic kind of divides the mass in my opinion. Either you respect and understand the presentation and accept it or you are disillusioned and move on.

I think the main thing about church is the community aspect.

Otherwise, religious people could just pray and study at home just as easily.

I think ppl just want to get out and hang with their church buddies.

Fellowship is a thing.

But Catholicism doesn’t practice evangelical in the same way.

We don't go to church. My husband is a SDA, Saturday church goer. I was raised Southern Baptist with an occasional visit to Pentecostal church.

My husband would not like going to a Pentecostal church, if they started speaking in tongues or running, etc. The SDA believes that is mockery and fake. I remember when I was little it kind of scared me, or amused me, depending on what was going on.

I was raised Methodist and went to church most Sundays, but I haven't gone to church where I live now since I moved here 12 years ago. I still go to church usually if I go home to visit and it's Sunday, though.

I don't have much respect for Pentecostals, tbh. I feel like if the Lord compels you to speak, those around you would be able to understand it. I've never been to one of their churches because no thanks.

I was raised Catholic but I stopped going to church around age 12.

I think they get too caught up in the material aspects. My church was always begging for money for this or that decorations. Oh, and the pedophiles.

I do like religious decor and aesthetics tbh, but it always struck me as straying from the messages of God. Expensive churches, expensive Vatican trappings...too showy and political.

Yes, definitely, but some of their imagery is art, so it's hard to hate.

I have a Virgin Mary figurine in my bedroom and she's waspy like me, lol.

I have very seriously thought about putting a statue in the front yard to scare the Mormons away.

You should definitely put Mothman in your front yard...

I agree that church can form a sense of community and they have and can do good things and help a lot of people. I'm just not interested in the formal church services or their beliefs.

They had a special prayer time planned today to pray for people that contracted the virus. My mom said I should go because they prayed for me and now I am better. I don't debate or argue with her because religion is important to them, so they are just disappointed in me and hope I will someday "let Jesus into my heart"

Did you see that clip on Borat where he was pretending to speak in tongues? Ha ha

I haven't been to a church service aside from the short one at Dollywood they had one Sunday we were there in over twenty years. We've discussed going.

personally, you get what you put into it. i think it's a method of coping with the unknown. some people use it for the wrong reasons, whether they want to convert their liberal gay neighbor or use it to influence politics. i hope those people are the minority and not the overwhelming majority.

I actually am more predestination minded and believe that conviction and coming into a relationship with God is a more mysterious happening than what organized religion would like people to believe. A lot of the trappings of what had become of Israel and the Pharisees are bound to develop in any form of organized church. I actually enjoy Catholic mass though. I’ve only been for services and one Sunday when my nephew was at a Catholic elementary school. I’ve never taken communion at a Catholic Church though. I think you’re supposed to have gone through confirmation.

I’m actually going to go read my Bible before work. Helps put my mind in the right place.
