Might as well journal this since I'm not going anywhere for a while.

Sunday 14th in evening: notice scratchy throat and voice starting to go hoarse.

Monday 15th voice going away and some scratchiness. Call in sick and call COVID hotline. Now, in days before COVID, I'd have just taken cold meds and went to work. Anyway, they tell me that unless i have fever or short of breath, i should wait a couple days to get tested to avoid a false negative.

(Notice the oldie rock song)

Tuesday 16th: stayed at home. Noticed a cough appear but felt pretty good so did some work around the house.

Wednesday 17th: went to get tested first thing in morning. Had to wait a half hour or so but no big deal. The test wasn't as horrible as people make it out to be. Lean your head back, relax your face and it's done in 10 seconds. Noticed the cough pick up a bit. Mildly short of breath when doing things around the house.

Thursday 18th: tried to do more around house. Still short of breath while moving but not while resting. Did get one high reading of temp.

Friday 19th: cancelled plans i had on Saturday with my son. Feverish throughout the day. Some body aches too. Still tried to do things around the house. Watched a lot of Sopranos. Worried if I'd hear back. Logged in to the patient portal and kept an eye on it. Around midnight, the results showed up. It's official. I have COVID.

Today: the laryngitis continues as does coughing, mild fever and body aches. I also have ZERO energy and everyone on the phone with me. Lots of friends call to volunteer to go pick things up for me. But also post office, medical people and department of health.
Looking at full laundry basket and wondering when it's going to get its ass downstairs and get done. guess I'll have to do it... tomorrow.
Funny taste in mouth. Smell is starting to go away now.
Feel free to comment. It is useful to have this all down but not trying to discourage participation.
Fellow postal worker from another facility texted today and everyone there knows i have coronavirus.
Wondering how people will react when I'm back (hopefully)

The young lady who called from DOH was surprised by my voice and commented that i sounded happy. I'm not happy to be sick. Far from it. I am generally cheerful especially with a stranger on the phone who hasn't done anything to me.

Is there any kind of treatment, or are you supposed to just let it run its course?
21 days ago - Saturday 6/20/20 - 10:12:00 PM EST (GMT-5)
Unless i need hospitalization for breathing problems, it's just all the things mom always said. Lots of liquids, rest, take OTC cold and flu meds as needed, etc.

My taste buds still work at least that's what my homemade salsa says.

So you didn't get a fever until about the 5th day of symptoms?
21 days ago - Saturday 6/20/20 - 10:14:02 PM EST (GMT-5)
And the whole cover your mouth, wash your hands, etc still apply as well.
They did suggest limiting the amount of rooms i use which sounded reasonable. 1 bedroom, 1 bath, kitchen and laundry room it is.

Yeah, odd huh? And not until after i tested.
My usual body temp runs a little lower than average (97.5 or so) so even 99.8 catches my attention

I never even considered limiting room use! Interesting
I'm glad you have lots of people willing to help you out

I hope it stays on the mild side for you.

Lots of friends. A lot of them are co-workers past and present.
I hope this can be useful for anyone else who might get this.

Thank you for documenting this

i guess lesson #1 is that when doubt, go get tested.
It would have been easy to take cold meds and go to work for a couple days until the fever and coughing hit. But that would have been just more co-workers and customers who could have potentially been exposed.

You were smart about it!
21 days ago - Saturday 6/20/20 - 10:42:05 PM EST (GMT-5)
I honestly want to go get tested just to know for sure. and the antibodies test.
21 days ago - Saturday 6/20/20 - 10:46:24 PM EST (GMT-5)
I was going to get the antibody test a couple weeks ago and the PA talked me out of it. Guess it doesn't matter now.

Oh darn. I suspect most everyone is going to get it at some point. And it is different for everyone. I hope you just take it easy and listen to your body. That laundry can wait. Give your lungs the healing time they need now. Maybe someone can go buy you a few items of clothing or undies you need and wash them at their house and bring them by and put them at your doorstep? I know it sucks to need laundry done, but rest has to be the priority for Mr. Post Man. Take care. I hope you get through this quickly and with no additional complications.

Thank all of you for your kind words, comments and support.

Slept well but still tired.
Coughing, scratchy throat and laryngitis still present.
Yesterday, i only ate twice but then again i stayed in bed most of the day. Moved the sprinklers twice but that was about it. Hoping for a bit more energy today and for less shortness of breath when walking around the house.
Still not going in the other bedrooms, living room or basement.
Hopefully, mom won't call 25 times (literal count) today.
20 days ago - Sunday 6/21/20 - 2:01:18 PM EST (GMT-5)
Oh man, sorry to hear this. But at least it seems like you're doing OK as far as having a mild to moderate case. Hope it stays that way.

Really sucks to not be able to see my kids on Father's day.
