Partner and I are about to grocery shop.
Is anyone actually buying extra pantry items?

If so, what? Tell me the amounts. Describe your reasoning. Show your work pls

Nothing outside of the normal groceries.

I guess I don't anticipate being unable to leave the house for such a long period of time that we will have to resort to eating the dog because we ran out of food...

I always have a few cans of stuff hanging around, plus stuff in the freezer, so I'm not concerned about starving if I have to stay home. But also, even if I get the virus and can't go shopping, there's always someone else that can go get groceries for me and deliver them (unless everyone gets it, but again, I'm not too worried about that happening)
But I don't even buy an extra loaf of bread or bottle of milk for long weekends, so I'm a bit of an outlier I think

Me neither CD, I'm just weirded out by empty shelves so far as well as places closing.

Hammy that's goals. I just moved in with partner the other weekend so we're organizing the pantry and joint meal planning in one go, and you just reminded me his freezer tends to be full of stuff we'll need to clean out

A freezer full of ice cream is often a desirable feature in a partner...

I have paper towels and toilet paper that should last a month or two. That was just normal shopping though.

I have a couple weeks worth of frozen chicken. Im out of tahini which I’ve been using for a quick meal, but no ones going to be stockpiling tahini.

I buy groceries for a week or two. I should have time to grab discounted pork chops this weekend before the world implodes.

I have 4 cases of bottled water but haven't bought any recently. I just normally stock up on that anyway since SLC tends to be dry with hot summers.

I bought some ‘kid friendly’ canned food (ravioli, spaghettios type stuff) that we don’t typically buy often, that would last the kid several days if needed for easy meals. As well as maybe 5-6 lunchables.

Got a few extra canned veggies. Probably a dozen pouches of tuna. Grabbed another carton of eggs, though I do eat them a lot.
More things just as an extra pack in the pantry just in case: beef sticks, the ‘expensive’ ($2) ramen my husband likes... probably half a dozen packs. Pasta and pasta sauce. Extra sriracha and ranch, ketchup. Important things

Also got a bulk bag of cheddar cheese and chicken yesterday. But those are normal buys that were timed right to buy yesterday.

Already had plenty of toilet paper.
Recently bought ground beef in bulk too so now have plenty of meats for meals.
Got some fresh veggies yesterday. Just normal amount that won’t go wasted.

I work in a movie theatre in an area with cases so there’s that worry about getting sick. So a majority of what I’ve recently bought is stuff that my kid can easily be fed with. Momma doesn’t feel well... here’s some ravioli and carrot sticks. :p

I have 15 pack of 12 water cases. Not because of the coronavirus. We actually drink it and now you can't get water bottles anywhere. And I've got a whole load more being delivered on Tuesday because Ramadan starts in April and we always stock up during Ramadan.
I now realise how crazy that sounds but it's seriously not out of the ordinary in our household.
TP I have 4 packs because we buy enough to last a month when we go.
I freeze meat so it's available when I need it.

I just generally don't like shopping. I'd rather buy something that will last over the month of it can.

Oh yeah. The water.

We did buy some extra... before everyone else went wild.

Now I’m upset cause I like my electrolyte water and people are snatching all that up too.

I do have a one month emergency supply of TP though.

Gross. I’m trying to get the sh-t off my ass. Not apply it.

We're finally at the store and the TP shelves are indeed empty y'all

It's too crowded to stop and crop pics

I had to buy a small bag of rice instead of a big bag of rice last week.

Country livin’.

Emptymisty that's brilliant for the kiddos. Also even aside from this stocking up situation I'm trying to figure out batching my meals including meat and ground beef for sure seems to be a recurring grocery item in the future. Brilliant

Pulled, do you observe Ramadan?
2 months ago - Friday 3/13/20 - 12:29:49 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, if restaurants close, I’ll just go in the woods at the house with a rifle and bag some dinner.

I bought some extra bits like canned fruit and veg, those non perishable fruit yogurt packs for kids, pasta, rice, and beans. I also got some extra toilet paper a while back when my friend in Japan mentioned that they were having shortages. But not a ton, just a big pack and a four pack. I've also stocked up on diapers and wipes. I've always got lots of sugar and tea. But I got some long life oat milk in case we need to rely on it.

I always have a good stockpile of pasta, canned goods, frozen meats, etc but I went ahead and for the past month bought double of everything nonperishable for grocery items. Making double dishes and freezing half.

I bought extra coffee, juice concentrate, pancake mix, and those cheap o brownie mixtures and stuff.

Struggle snacks.
Things I remember my mom making when we had no money as a kid.

I would usually, last year I didn't fast at all, because I was pregnant and vomitting a lot. This year my daughter is being exclusively breastfed so I won't be fasting because I wouldn't want it to affect her milk supply. My husband will be, though.

spoon- good point about plant-based milk! I wound up getting something made out of peas?? idk, they were really selling the taste in the description.

petite - the freezing dishes idea i'll see everywhere and want to try someday. speaking of struggle food, I informed the dude that you can freeze bread (from pretty much only eaten formerly frozen bread as a child) and it blew his mind

Puller, I didn't know you practiced! That makes a lot of sense and I hope it's a happy season ahead for you

What my cart wound up looking like

(Kids' and partner's stuff not pictured)

featuring sweet kale salad mix!!, stuff for homemade marinara, rice, tuna, pasta, oatmeal, granola, muffins, and.... not much the way of fresh veggies.

I'm going to experiment with Ripple Milk (still ?!?) and partner is trying out powdered Gatorade instead of his usual bottles. Living on the edge at an already risky time

Ripple makes milk too? I've only had their wine...
