If I am able to pass this math test (I have two more attempts) then I will be a student again, possibly really soon.

Aside from the books I have to buy what do college students need? Should I get a backpack? What is the best brand? I want a really roomy and durable one. Do students typically take their laptop with them to class? Notebooks, how many? Folders? Pens or pencils?

I have clearly been out of school too long. Well since like 2002?

I am hoping to do mostly online classes to start. I have to pass this math test. I passed the English test even though I thought I did better than I actually scored. Hmmmmm

Did school make you nervous? I feel nervous.

Also is it better to buy or rent books?

If you're doing online classes I think you won't need a backpack.

I'm doing a post graduate course and I was nervous but it's kinda been like riding a bike in terms of getting used too it again.

Rent them first, if you see there is one you really like, might need in the future, buy it.

Also, I really want to get back into studying stuff veterinery related, but not having a set place to live is making it very difficult. I will have to push it back until I can settle my.immigration status

I will definitely do my math at the campus, I need as much guidance as possible.

I wanted to knock the math out first, but the classes start very soon and we have things filled in our schedule that are going to be impossible to work around due to not having child care.

What is a good back pack? I need a durable one, that will not break on me in a few months. I want one that will last the whole time I am in school which will be anywhere from two and a half years to three and a half years.

I would highly recommend this messenger bag I recently got, rather than a backpack. It will carry everything you need, has a separate compartment for your laptop, and is water-resistant.

I seriously carry so much sh*t for work; it's like my mobile office. And will probably be more useful after you're out of school than a backpack.

What size and color did you get?
25 days ago - Sunday 9/22/19 - 9:45:23 PM EST (GMT-5)
It says for a man. Do most people think it is for a man?

I got the 15.6" black (which is really more like charcoal than true black), because that was the size I needed to fit my laptop + I wanted to make sure legal sized paper would fit. It's super spacious and has tons of pockets (many zippered). I have my laptop, at least 100 printed sheets of paper, a dozen+ sets of spare instrument strings, some small tools for repairs, a spare shirt, a book, and a Bluetooth speaker in there and it doesn't feel remotely full.

I was super annoyed by that when I was looking for a bag like this. It's just garden variety sexist marketing.

I did not even think of a bag like this.

Do most college students take their laptop into class? I type way faster than I can write and I get pain in my hand when I write for too long. I would rather type notes than write them.

Yeah, I just feel like it's the best compromise between a backpack (not great for laptop) and a laptop bag (limited space for other stuff).
A lot of people do take laptops to class, and if that's how you prefer to take notes, you should.

That bag would work. Thank you for sharing that link.

You can even try voice to text for your notes... idk

I passed that math test and paid my money and now I am a student again. I am terrified.

I have to go get a schedule and buy the books now.

What else do I need? Please tell me do I need note books? I am aiming to do 100% online courses my first semester because I do not have any child care lined up and this is happening suddenly.

I just inquired about school a few weeks ago and now I am a student! There are two career choices I have to make. One is a very hard to get into program and the other not so hard but an extra year of school.

I hope I can do it and make a career I can be proud of and my children can be proud of.

Congrats!

You and your children should both be proud of your initiative to go to school...

It took this long (I'll be 39 next month) to decide what I want to do with my life! That is sad. But it is never too late.

But my children really are my big kick in the butt to get me motivated. I need to be able to have a career to fall back on so I can always support them no matter what. And the timing is right. I do still want another baby, though. I am leaving it to fate and what my path is meant to be. Everything will fall into place.

This gives me hope!

I've been on an educational hiatus since 2011. It's felt so long I'm honestly nervous to re-enroll for school. I'm trying to narrow down what I'd like to study.

I’m proud of you damsel! Your kids will be too!

I am extremely nervous but think that starting out with online classes in the comfort of my home is going to be good. If I had to add in a commute and a rigid schedule it would be too overwhelming.

I work at a college.

Maybe one or two notebooks but don't overload yourself with supplies until you get syllabuses and find out what's actually needed.

95% of stuff is done online now, even if it's not an online class. Yes, definitely bring your laptop. Most do or some type of tablet.

Rent books if possible! Only buy if absolutely necessary and if used. And your college may push you to go through their campus bookstore. This isn't necessary. Google to find the best price.

Also, if you haven't, join the FB page or other social media pages of your school. Lots of students buy/sell/trade books and materials on there when they're done with them.
