My dog has a tumor in his testicle. It’s actually my parent’s dog. I walk him and let him run more than anyone else though. They’re supposed to neuter him on Thursday.

So I guess in unneutered dogs there’s an 80 percent chance of them growing a tumor in their testicle. And there’s only a 30 percent chance that it’s cancerous and it spreads. He’s still really uncomfortable and is acting sick. He’s only six.

My mom is going to call the vet in the morning and see if they can do the operation sooner.

We’re supposed to go to Maine in a few weeks and I’m just hoping he’s recovered and feeling better. He loves the lake more than any of us.

Side note: back to work tomorrow. Been bored and not knowing what to do with myself but still, work ugh.

Never known a dog that gotten castrated past puppy age- - not sure if that means a longer recovery time or not...

Come on amaq. Take one for the team so pup doesn't feel like he's being picked on.

Maybe it would make me a better singer...

No dice; castrati were made pre-puberty.

But I mean, by all means, try it anyway just to see.

All dogs that go to the shelter are fixed before adoption so I am sure this is very common.

That said, was this a breeding dog? If not, then yeah he should have been fixed as a pup or when they got him. It really isn't fair to keep non breeding dogs and cats unaltered. For one thing, there are too many health issues (like this one) and for the other, it is not good for their sexual health/behavior.

We tried breeding him.

We had a mature dog that was neutered. I remember him being pretty out of it and recovery taking a few days to a week. I wasn’t old enough to remember how it changed his behavior except that he got in a lot fewer dog fights.

I don’t remember if I mentioned this here...

I was out jogging with the dog and a woman with her dogs was just leaving in her car. They were also labs. She gave me her number. I gave it to my parents. They talked.

Anyway.

I was the one that had to drive him to his “date”. And he couldn’t figure it out. He was humping air at one point next to her, but he didn’t ever figure out the mounting thing.

It was a thoroughly embarrassing experience.

And what was the lesson learned?
9 days ago - Monday 7/8/19 - 11:27:46 AM EST (GMT-5)
Dogs are so manipulated by their environment that they have lost the ability to satisfy basic urges such as the desire to procreate...

Or alternatively, he ain’t no Alpha.

Those are worthwhile observations but what is the lesson?
9 days ago - Monday 7/8/19 - 11:47:19 AM EST (GMT-5)
Those observations are only hypothetically true therefore I am begging the question of if the observation is accurate.

There is no curriculum.

Sorry. News forum mindset crept in here.

The lesson is...

Dog balls are best kept if you plan on making a puppy factory to sell to cheap mall pet stores. If you can’t maximize profit, off with his balls, temperament considerations be damned. We gots to keep makin that cash moneys.

He’s at the vet now. My mom’s going to text while I’m at work.

Surgery was successful. He has to stay overnight.

They think they got everything.

This was honestly a little scary. He’s only six but our first dog had a tumor that went unnoticed by the vet. He was thirteen when it happened though. It ruptured in his spleen.

That was really sad. I’m hoping he doesn’t lose all his personality. He still acted like a puppy. If he’s more mellow that’s okay but I still will feel bad for him.

No one needs to add anything.

This might have worked out better in the heavy petting thread actually.

Puppy mills are not something to joke about. I might as well apologize for that inappropriate joke as well.

They’re keeping him through the afternoon. He pulled out his stitches so he has a cone now. And they have to use staples. They might do a biopsy on the mass and they’re going to do more blood work. Sorry about the multi posting. He should be home this afternoon with a cone.

In before the lock...

Hope he has a quick recovery.

I’m probably just going to make a post when he gets home.

I’ll delt if no one cares about my dog’s balls. It just happens to be an ongoing event.

I think it's entirely fair to post frequent updates on stuff like this...
8 days ago - Tuesday 7/9/19 - 3:37:29 PM EST (GMT-5)
By all means, tell us more about your dog getting neutered.

And if you ever hooked up with the woman who you met and arranged breeding back when he had his junk, we'd obviously want to hear that story too.
