I've always said I'm the type of girl that if my SO gets me jewelry, I'd be more offended/ sad than anything because getting me my favorite donut means you know me better.

But i really want a semi fancy necklace for our anniversary

We have very plain wedding rings, that I picked out, because my engagement ring is sparkly and unique and amazing, and I heard you wear them together, so I wanted to go more plain for the wedding band.

Problem is, my engagement ring (E-ring), while its perfect and I love it, bugs the crap out of me on my finger. We got it sized right and everything. But i don't like a chunk on my finger. Its not even that big, but it moves, and the rocks end up sideways or such and it just bothers me. I just have never liked rings.

So I tend not to wear it.

But I love necklaces. My original idea was to put my E-ring on a necklace chain, but husband doesn't like that idea.
So I'd like to get a special "us" necklace, thats somewhat fancy but not too fancy, to wear when I dress up, as a symbol of our

Husband got me a really cute necklace with our symbol (a cupcake) a few years ago. But while its really cute, its a cheap one meant for a kid. So when I dress up for a fancy dinner, it looks very out of place. I'd like to get a fancier cupcake or such. Maybe with some sparkle.

Does this make me a terrible person
I feel so conflicted.

Also, husband is sad that the E-ring can't be "it", and that the kids necklace also can't be "it", because they are really sweet and from him and such.
And I wish it was! I don't know.
I feel like a spoiled brat.

There's nothing wrong with that at all!

I don’t know what the last paragraph means.

But I don’t think it’s unreasonable or spoiled to want nice jewelry as a gift.

Just be sure to talk to him and tell him because if you’ve always made the impression known that you don’t want nice jewelry, that would be a signal to him to never get that for you.

I've said that i want this necklace, that it would be cute, and we could go pick it out together and such.
He just seems so sad about it. That i don't wear my engagement ring, so it and that the cute kids necklace isn't "enough", persay.

A sparkly cupcake pendant on a 24ct gold chain sounds totally reasonable as an anniversary gift. Maybe let him know that coming from him for that occasion would mean a lot to you.

I get it now.

I think he should listen to your concerns. I am on your side.

Cupcake pendants could be your thing and it would be cute to get you one for different occasions.

Unless he's going to surprise me with it and by trying to set up a time to go get it I'm ruining it

Is he that smooth? he's really cute, but I'm not sure

Hm. I think his reaction to me mentioning it is what's throwing me off so much, cause he's usually much more "yeah, sure, if you want" about stuff like this.
But maybe he's just trying to be sneaky and I'm all up in his grill
I chatter a good bit, and i have chattered/daydream as we just walking around about what id want it to look like.

I'm so confused

He did that exact thing with my e-ring, i chattered on once about what my ideal e-ring would look like, hearts, his birthstone, my birthstone, and he surprised me with that exact thing, plus our nicknames, it was adorable and perfect.

This takes a lot of energy and feelings. I'm glad we are usually very transparent with each other

I had a necklace once. And I wore my high school class ring for a second.

You're also a lot less feminine than Nicoles, amaq.

I was just saying.

I hope you get your gold watch and your gold chain Nicoles.

I hope he takes the hint and gets you the pendant and necklace. That would be a sweet story.

i think you deserve a pretty necklace. if you've talked to him about it, give him some time to come up with one.

i feel you on the engagement ring. i don't wear mine either. it's a bit too big for me. my husband surprised me with a wedding band for my 30th. i didn't get one before. it's lovely but it doesn't fit my engagement ring. so i mostly just wear my wedding ring now.
13 days ago - Thursday 7/4/19 - 12:34:57 AM EST (GMT-5)
I never expected him to surprise me, i usually don't like surprises. I suggested it as a 'lets go together, it'll be fun for me to pick it out', but i can see how he could be all 'ooo I'll surprise her, then its more of a gift'.

I'll cool my jets

Our anniversary was today though
I first mentioned it about 3 weeks ago.

What did he do for your anniversary?
13 days ago - Thursday 7/4/19 - 12:51:35 AM EST (GMT-5)
Wrote me a sweet card that's what we usually do, is exchange cards we write a bunch of sappy us things in.

I combined anniversary and his birthday (coming up) though, and gave him his birthday gift of a grill today, so we can use it tomorrow
Plus he scheduled a dentist appt for us on his birthday his family didn't celebrate birthdays, he thinks of it as another day.
Not mine though i have a birthday week

Oh, and we do fireworks for our anniversary too, because we met in person for the first time to watch fireworks. Most fireworks are on the 4th though, and he taught most of the day today, so we are board gaming, cooking out, and going to fireworks as an extension of anniversary tmrw.
Did gifts today though, for grill.

Oh, he also said "i was going to decorate the living room with balloons and a banner and such but NO WHERE in this town sells anniversary balloons and banners".

Apparently we need a party city here
This was a couple days ago though, i wonder if he's come up with anything in the meantime.

What subject does your husband teach?

Probably a more appropriate question for the vocal issues thread.

Are you from Rochester?

I went to Lilac fest a couple years ago.

Sorry for random questions outside of AMA. I’m just naturally curious and unnaturally drinking my fourth beer.

Also, would I be like exhibit A in your husband’s profession?
13 days ago - Thursday 7/4/19 - 9:38:01 AM EST (GMT-5)
In my opinion, you are not being stupid and/or frivolous.
13 days ago - Thursday 7/4/19 - 10:51:31 AM EST (GMT-5)
There is nothing at all wrong with this and may I suggest you look at Pandora jewelry as it is very reasonably priced and nice/durable.

i'm kinda worried about ever getting engaged bc i don't wear jewelry (except necklaces seem ok) and i feel like it'd be weird to always wear a ring
