Plans for today:
-go to the office late
-panic about upcoming projects
-leave the office early
-late lunch with my mans
-fireworks? or: panic about work at man's place
-online activities such as, answer any of yt's questions, interact outside of news forum or PMs, perhaps a birthday selfie

It's gonna be wild, y'all

Journal things :
-my parents asked to visit last week but I canceled yesterday whilst in a work panic
-turns out my predecessor worked 60+ hours a week to obtain funding, then checked out. So now I'm coordinating 4 trainings in one summer as promised to funders but with few systems in place to get people registered
-due to a work payroll goof I'm supposed to be divorcing by December. Good timing tbh
-there was another thing but I forgot

OH! it's that I'm out of ADHD meds (lost my script) with no psych appointment until the end of the month. Hooray

Happy birthday!

14 days ago - Wednesday 7/3/19 - 7:13:44 AM EST (GMT-5)
1-what is your earliest memory?
2- what animal would you like to be reincarnated as?
3- what article of clothing that you own is your favorite?
4- favorite name for a girl? Boy?
5- if you could only have one for the rest of your life, would you want mind-blowing sex and mediocre food, or mediocre sex and mind blowing food.

Happy B-Day, Fanta!

Happy birthday!

It sounds like you've been dealing with a stressful week at work, but what do you like most about your new job so far?
14 days ago - Wednesday 7/3/19 - 8:25:41 AM EST (GMT-5)
Thanks you

1- oldest memory - flashes of the apartment where we lived in Chicago when I was 2. Other than that, lots of vivid memories of our time in that city in various homes

2- hummingbird. live in a greenhouse, essentially live off sugar

3- visiting home maybe a couple years ago my mother pulls out this crisp navy blue oversized sweatshirt with the orange citgo gas station logo where the chest pocket would go, saying she thought it seemed like something I'd like. I love that sweatshirt and that it seemed like a 'me' enough thing for her to save.

4- maybe Ramón for a boy. Amalia for a girl

5- the sex! I enjoy mediocre food, tbh.

These were happy questions to think about. Thank you!

This is a tough one! Good question.

thank you! field-wise, what has stood out has been hearing what other states are in the process of doing for survivor rights. Office-wise, lucky to have been granted a regular work from home day (introvert win!)
14 days ago - Wednesday 7/3/19 - 8:53:07 AM EST (GMT-5)
Those are definitely great perks. I wish that I had a work from home option!

I hope your panic subsides once you have some of these larger projects under your belt.

You got this.

Thanks for the encouragement chica re: remote work - I've been denied before but suspect employers are starting to realize the value of uninterrupted work time. If you want the option there's not much to lose by asking at the right time
14 days ago - Wednesday 7/3/19 - 9:39:43 AM EST (GMT-5)
Of course! I admire your work and efforts.

I would like to work for a pro-survivor/human rights organization at some point too, it's just very hard to actually get a full-time position (as I'm sure you know!) as most opportunities are for volunteers.

Yeah, I think WFH is becoming a lot more common. Unfortunately the CEO at my company is old school and believes that when you're working, you should "be at work," so it probably won't be an option for me any time soon.

Another one: do you like having a birthday right before a holiday?

How old are you?

Is there any mountain high enough?

Is there any valley low enough?

Is there any river wide enough?

don't be discouraged, I'd say. My experience has been that there are relatively more chances of obtaining a paid internship in social/policy work than the private sector (magazine internships and the like) and staying on. For victim services, the challenges lie in retention (burnout, nonprofit culture, secondary trauma) and providing opportunities for upward growth more than anything. If you ever want to talk about the pros or cons hmu!

What is your least favourite Fanta flavour?

-the date isn't bad at all, again for an introvert Fireworks are fun, the office is usually either empty or closed, and I didn't have to see my classmates growing up

I appreciate your supportive words! I'll probably take you up on that offer in the future.

I haven't lost hope, I just don't expect it to happen very soon. I plan to go back to school at some point and get a graduate minor in the vein of public policy so I'll be a more competitive applicant.

And yeah, I don't plan to go into direct service. I volunteered for a year on a crisis line and completely burned out by the end of it. Very important work, but I have too much of my own mental baggage to do it in the long-term. I'm still grateful for the experience, but I think policy work is more my domain. I recently finished up an internship (unpaid) at a human rights organization that was policy-related and I loved it.

Also, for some reason I had this sense that you were turning 28 today and apparently I was right on point! Isn't that bananas?
14 days ago - Wednesday 7/3/19 - 10:54:01 AM EST (GMT-5)
That's a legit AMA question, btw.

I'm happy with toast and coffee for breakfast, something i can put in the microwave for lunch and a sandwich for dinner with a couple beers for dessert. So I'll have to say the sex.

Happy belated birthday

Thanks my man! NICE TRY. They're all fanta-stic(tm).

Bb - that all rings pretty true (even the bananas.) I am sorry about any re-living you went through, and admire that you've taken time to heal. I think your resolve will pay off. My sister's a 'wonk' and while the scope of her research has fluctuated a bit, the day to day is steady at least.
