I got a job!

I'll be doing analyses for China-related policy in the US. My first post-grad school job!! And it's in my field! The pay isn't great but I've been told that's to be expected at this point. I start this Wednesday - I'm very excited!!!

This is why I haven't been on lately, by the way. The application process was very in-depth and I've been working on it for a few weeks, too busy for YT.

To celebrate, I'm getting wine-drunk and listening to The Cure. Did you know the first CD I ever bought for myself was 4:13 Dream? Nostalgia is probably making it sound better than it is. Bringing up all sorts of memories of angsty lil Sleepy sitting in her bedroom complaining about how dumb the world is.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Anyway, congrats me! I have a job, I'm no longer a drain on society. Woohoo!

IT'S ABOUT TIME

Thanks!

Apparently the norm for my classmates is 6 months to a year after graduation getting a real-people job. So I did pretty good!!!

I'm listening to the entirety of 4:13 Dream, hahaha. So far I'm on "The Perfect Boy." I used to LOVE this song.

Thanks! I'm really stoked. As soon as I saw this job posting, I wanted it so bad.

I'll put that one next on my list. 4:13 Dream isn't one of their better albums, tbh. But it holds nostalgia property for me so I enjoy it.

I just finished listening to P*rnography oh my friend's suggestion and it was so good.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Thank you!!

I honestly never thought I'd get this job, precisely because I wanted it SO much. I figured it would be snapped up before I even got the chance to apply. I start this Wednesday and I'm very stoked. I've got to decide what to wear!

What will you actually do at work? Like, I get the big picture but how will your day be spent?
4 days ago - Saturday 3/16/19 - 2:48:26 AM EST (GMT-5)
It sounds like I'll have a variety of tasks. Mostly, they want me to write news briefs, editorials, etc. about what's currently happening in China-related policy. However, they also organize events like panels, lectures, etc. and will have me assisting with that. I'll also help with general office work, but I've done that before, so I'm not too concerned.

Fancy!!!

I am so proud of your trajectory and success.

Can you get me a job now?

Congratulations, though. I hope I can be like you when I grow up!

Pfft, why would I need to get GREEN LANTERN a job...
4 days ago - Saturday 3/16/19 - 3:16:50 AM EST (GMT-5)
Xciting! Congratulations on your new job.

The first album I ever bought for myself was My Way by Usher.

I think that's a respectable first album. How old were you?

Everyone, post the first album you ever bought yourself!

for the record, my first album WOULD have been a Green Day album... but dad already had it so I didn't have to get it myself.

I don't remember.

I do recall my first tape was a single of Europe's The Final Countdown. My grandma bought it or my brother and I to share. I have no idea why she picked that one.

Then there were years of buying cassettes at the mall's music store. First one, I have no idea.

I do remember my first two CDs I bought: NIN Broken and Metallica And Justice For All.

I lied, it was usher's self titled album, I just got confused because I listened to the other one way more. I was 12?
4 days ago - Saturday 3/16/19 - 3:33:43 AM EST (GMT-5)
Okay, it's officially been confirmed: Mousespelled is cool. I actually love The Final Countdown!

12 sounds about the right age for a first album, if I do say so myself. That was probably about how old I was when I bought 4:13 Dream. After that, it was a struggle with my mom when I wanted to buy music. I remember buying Bullet for my Valentine from Hot Topic and mom calling dad to make him check the lyrics so she'd know it wasn't too "dark" for me. Ah... the good old days.

Poll time: Which Green Lantern was the best?
