I was in a very tight boring position today. The schedule was absolutely wack and I did nothing for the whole morning. I read a book, I talked to some good people. I have a creeping suspicion that a friend of mine has feelings for me. She's great and everything but I'm in no position to date anyone.

At around 11 I started feeling weird. Just like hot and my stomach wasn't in the best shape. I ended up going home and have been asleep since. I need to eat. I also need to organize my bag. Its a wreck, I found a week old strawberry in a ziplock.

I'm also craving pho right now. Like I really, oh oh I just got an Instagram notification? Hm. But pho sounds so good right now but I'm also not prepared for the stress of ordering, paying, and eating. Hope you all are well and eating pho.

You get stressed from ordering and eating? Would you be ordering online? I mean if you have to order by phone, or talk on the phone in general, I can understand the stress. Pho that.

I had pancakes for dinner. That's basically the same thing as pho, right?

Yes, practically the same. I hate ordering anything from anywhere. In some cases, I just end up trying to make the food myself.

I like ordering things online. I'd prefer if I didn't have to interact with the delivery driver tho. Just drop my food outside and leave. I can't wait until we have robots for that.

Chipotle + Alphabet (google) did an experiment here where they delivered some number of burritos via drone. But they were weirdly secretive about the whole thing, like they wouldn't even allow the news to come in and take professional pictures of it (so all they have are cell phone pictures). And no one has heard about it since.

That makes sense. Discretion is very important to me when it comes to ordering food. I don't want anyone to know that I eat.

Ordering online is a godsend. I can't STAND talking on the phone to people I don't know.

If you order delivery online, make sure you tip the delivery person in cash, not through whatever app/website you're using (seamless, doordash, etc.). Those companies have terrible pay structures that ultimately ensure drivers never see 100% of the tips left for them on the app.

Hm that sucks but I really hate tipping in cash. First of all, I never really have any cash because I never use it for anything. I don't even remember my ATM pin which I just changed a few months ago after forgetting it and I haven't used it since and don't remember what I changed it to.

Plus tipping in cash means more awkward interaction. If I have to interact with the delivery person I want it to just be:

Them: here's your food
Me: thanks

The end.

Yeah basically how it works is the driver is guaranteed a minimum amount per delivery. It's pretty low, I think $5-$6. But a delivery shouldn't take an hour so whatever.
And you would think that your tip is on top of that amount, but that's not how it works. Doordash counts your tip as *part of the guaranteed amount*. So it saves them $$ when you tip, instead of guaranteeing the driver more. It's essentially like tip skimming in a restaurant—the $$ you intended for the driver to get over and above their wage rate for serving you actually ends up padding the company's bottom line, rather than the individual's income.

It's a scummy practice that I refuse to support, so I just tip in cash, leave Doordash on the hook for the driver's guarantee, and make sure the money I wanted that person to get actually goes to them.

That definitely sounds like it should be illegal.

I'm not familiar with Doordash but I'm guessing every other delivery company works the same way.

After googling a bit it looks like some drivers don't like cash tips because some customers ends up not tipping at all. That's a dick move but if companies paid their employees what they should and tips were just for exceptional service then it wouldn't be an issue.

(Also I don't remember all the swear filter words. Can I say dick? Pussy?)

Oh apparently I can. Now I feel dumb for censoring it in another thread.
