It's a true crime/paranormal podcast. My friend recommended it to me and I'm really enjoying it. They do two stories per episode, one is true crime, one is paranormal. The only thing I don't like is that sometimes the banter/off-topic chatter lasts forever. Other than that, it's kinda interesting.

What podcasts are you listening to? Any that I should check out?

I need to clean my apartment. I have a bunch of clothes and old school supplies I want to donate but, uh. I don't know where to donate them?

Also I gotta get my license renewed this summer. I live in Maryland now sooooo I guess I should do it here? I don't really know how this is all gonna work. Wish I was better at being an adult person.

I have a lead on a job. Reeeeeally hoping it pulls through because I'd like it a lot, I think!

Fun fact: when I first created this profile when I was 13, I listed my occupations as... (cont)

"Conflict resolution" because whenever my friends got into fights, they asked me to mediate because I was really good at listening to both sides and telling them both to stop being tw*ts.

And what did I get my Master's in? CONFLICT MANAGEMENT.

(And China Studies and International Economics, but those aren't as relevant to my story.)

Anyway, funny how the more things change, the more they stay the same.

I can't eat at my favorite bakery anymore. The last two times I got breakfast croissants there, they made me sick. AND they made my boss sick so I know it's not just me. I'm bummed because they have really good food!

Also, I finally ran out of my Stila eyeliner. I've had it for at LEAST two years, best eyeliner I've ever owned. I can't believe I ran out, it seemed like it was gonna last forever. Best $22 I've ever spent in terms of makeup.

Okay! Cleaning starts now!

You better start cleaning- - I heard that you are a dirty girl...

I don't listen to podcasts, so I'm not going to recommend any to you.

Getting sick every so often is sometimes worth it if the bakery has really good food.

I could probably still eat their cookies/baked goods... but now I'll be really paranoid about it.

do you listen to last podcast on the left?
I feel like that would be right up your alley

it’s a comedy true crime and paranormal and aliens and conspiracy theories podcast

they usually do two to three episodes on a specific topic or circumstance
they wrapped up a three parter on mengele recently and then this week they did a one off on the history of ouija boards

Oooh, I will definitely try that, Dissy, that sounds great!

I would recommend listening to the aum shinrikyo episodes and their serial killer episodes first like about gein or dahmer

and then go from there

Noted!

The episode on ATIWWD I'm listening to is number 79 and it's about this haunted doll (Peggy the Doll) and if you look at it/watch videos about it/think too much about it apparently it can make you ill, including causing "vomiting and cardiac arrest."

DO NOT LIKE.

I can sympathize with a lot of this. I also live in Maryland and my license expires next week and I still haven't gone to get it renewed. It seems like such a pain in the ass. My mom got hers renewed a few months ago and it took more than 4 hours. And because of the stupid new ID laws I need to bring all sorts of documents. I don't even understand why people need to renew their licenses if they don't have any history of accidents or DUIs and they're not elderly with failing eyes.

I drive about 2 and a half hours to and from school everyday so I've been looking for podcasts to pass the time but I haven't found any I'm happy with. Even with the ones I've enjoyed I've only really been interested in 30-40% of the episodes. There's one on linguistics that I like ok. I recently found these which have a lot of topics I'm interested in but they're still hit or miss. The Unexplained Mysteries show should have been perfect but the "mysteries" they pick just don't interest me or aren't really mysteries.

And they are a little too credulous for me and have an annoying habit of building things up like it's a huge mystery and then at the end quickly explaining why it isn't. I have a similar issue with the Conspiracy Theories one where they give way too much credit to the crazy people.

Yes, conflict management! Which includes conflict resolution, conflict analysis, and also negotiation.

I've been thinking of listening to Two Girls One Ghost! I might give that a try tonight while I continue cleaning.

Hael: I'll take a look at the link! Sometimes I feel similarly about giving too much credit to unreliable sources.

I wasn't really fond of Last Podcast on the Left, even when I was interested in the topics (they did a multi-parter on Jonestown that was good, and another on LRH. I knew a good bit about Scientology, but not as much about his life, specifically).
But they talk over each other waaaay too much for me, and laugh really loudly at their own jokes.

I've listened to several limited-run ones that were good. Bag Man (about Spiro Agnew), Bundyville (about those crazy guys out west who took over the Malheur wildlife refuge in Oregon), and Standoff (Ruby Ridge). That one was cool because I'm old enough to remember that event, but was too young to really understand fully what happened. All of those are only like 6-8 episodes each, though.

Whistlestop has been a favorite since it's been out. It started out about presidential campaign history, but has morphed into more general presidential history.

My mom is really the true crime person, of the two of us…I can't count the number of podcasts she's recommended to me that I just haven't listened to at all lol. I did try Dr. Death, but it was just so gruesome and bleak. I ended up just looking the guy up to find out how it ended, and stopped actually listening to the podcast. Medical malpractice stories really squick me out, apparently! Far more than violent murders and stuff like that.

I don't really like the interview style podcasts for some reason unless it's structured very well. And I definitely don't care for the casual conversation style ones with all the lame jokes and banter. I just finished listening to one that was all about the science of turtles which should have been perfect for me but something about the host saying things like "that's just too much!" and "what's one myth about turtles that you're so over?" was really grating for me. And there was so much jumping around, side tracking, backstories, and listener questions that I don't feel that I really learned anything. And oh god, the sound effects. So annoying.

My brother-in-law recommended the Mysterious Universe podcast to me saying it was really "open minded" which was already a red flag for me. I gave it a shot tho and the whole episode I was annoyed by how uncritically the hosts accepted everything they read and heard. And then at the end they recounted someone's story of how they were driving over a bridge and saw a girl who looked like she was about to jump. When they went back she wasn't there. They reported it to the police who said lots of people had reported the same thing. So they thought it might be a ghost and looked up if any woman had ever committed suicide there. They found no record of that. The host's conclusion? It must have been a future ghost! They came back in time to haunt there because... well they didn't explain that part. At that point I was done giving it a chance.

It annoys me because I'm really interested in mysteries and cryptozoology and unexplained phenomena. But they have to be ACTUAL mysteries that are ACTUALLY unexplained. I have no interest in anything that can be easily debunked, or what happens more often, never actually happened. I'm not sure if the hosts of all these paranormal and unexplained phenomena podcasts that present everything as true are ignoring the debunkings or just didn't do any research into it.

A mysterious light in the sky? Interesting.
It was definitely UFOs coming to abduct people! Not interesting. Certainty kills the mystery. And flawed certainty with no evidence kills it in a much less satisfying way than scientific investigation.

omg I felt the same way about dr. death I stopped after just a few episodes

but as for lpotl I’m used to it and I’ve been following them for years and seen them in person and listen to their other network shows, so I can appreciate how they are, but if you aren’t really as invested in them I can see how it might be annoying

These are my podcasts. I haven't even heard of so many that y'all are talking about.

how do you keep up?
6 days ago - Monday 2/11/19 - 6:03:40 PM EST (GMT-5)
As evidenced by the number of unlistened episodes, I don't. I listen to them at work and in the mornings and driving. All other times are basically for music.
