Sorry, do I need to define "entry-level" for these people?

Applying for jobs. Why? Because I'MMA GRADUATE SOON LIKE THE BADASS I AM. I'm gonna have my Master's and I'm gonna kick some serious ass.

So I apply for this job, right? Sounds perfect for me, right up my alley, right in line with my degree and shxt. And it says "entry-level."

I get halfway through the application and then it says "oh by the way you have to have seven years of professional experience."

THAT IS NOT. WHAT ENTRY LEVEL. MEANS.

Kinda just wanna write them a letter and be like do you need a dictionary? Is that the problem? GodDAMN.

I applied anyway. Because fxck it, why not? If they can't put together a coherent application they can deal with it.

Also I had an awesome fall break. Finished my second draft of my Capstone, finished like 90% of the stuff I wanted to get done. I'm a baller.

Give me your best tips for job-hunting and not punching anyone in the face.

That would make me so mad. Job seeking is he'll enough as it is, without incompetent recruiters
I had to help a friend look for jobs and fill out online applications and I was so frustrated and angry by the end of it! It's literally the worst
I have no advice

What I hate the most is when you upload your resume and then have to write it all out again for the application platform. Urgh.

That is the worst.

Also not telling which company it was, but this is like... a massively respected institution that should absolutely know better.

Ugh.

Also I HATE FILLING OUT RESUME STUFF. Like... just READ THE RESUME, why do employers DO that?!

So computers can head it and they don’t want to optical character recognition.

I have a snarky comment for this but first, what's going on with your avatar??

when I graduated every job I applied for wanted at least three years of relevant experience

at the end of the day you are either qualified for the position or not
f-ck experience

try and impress them with your interview if they give you one

"Entry level" so they can pay you diddly squat, but with experience...because no one wants to have to train your ass.

I haven't "job hunted" in a long time. I probably don't have any good advice.

(my advice probably isn’t even all that great either because I got my job based on who I know more than anything else and I feel like DC is also a very ‘who do you know’ type of city)

i got an entry level position once. i felt kind of like a lab rat.

wasn't a fan. but they will give you the opportunity to prove yourself. and if you get crafty you can work it into something official. i don't think it would have worked out for me. i sat on my hands for too long with what they gave me and then they said thank you and ended the contract i was on.

you'll learn a lot if they bring you on entry level but i think once you're in you have to make a leap of faith at some point which i did not do.

but i am making about as much as that entry level engineer position was paying me now by going the long way and getting a technician position.

unfortunately these parallels might not exist in the world outside of industrial manufacturing.

I used to apply for jobs which I was not qualified for at all. I was hired on as a mechanical engineer about 20 years ago at a place because I was the only applicant and they guys that interviewed me liked me. I can nail an interview.

Why? Are you a woman trapped in the body of a man?

I would really question whether it's a good idea to work for a place that tries stuff like this. It's probably worth a comparison of job duties and salary with other positions, because I'd bet this one is under-compensated.

I'm like 97% sure I'm not even gonna get an interview. Ah, well. I had fun with my cover letter because I was pretty certain they were just gonna throw my application out anyway.

Plus I'm a certified bat catcher. Who can say no to that?
15 days ago - Monday 11/26/18 - 5:24:34 PM EST (GMT-5)
