Me and a doctor finally reached an agreement that while it'd be legally questionable and arguably unethical to euthanise me, I still can't and shouldn't be left to just exist like this, so they'll try to blast my brains with electricity and see if that is going to make me happy thoughts.

How are y'all doing?

Yes, there's another YTer who's been through it within the past ~5 years or so.

They can't euthanise me so there's a 50-50 chance that this will work. I don't care if it gives me a reson to kill myself or a reason to not kill myself, either will do.

Did it work?

I don't think they felt like it did much good, no. But that doesn't mean it won't for you, or doesn't for other people.

I've actually heard good things about ECT

I totally want that done to me.

All I hope for is that it'll either cure me or kill me.

One of my mil's crazy ex husbands forced her to get it done when my husband was a kid.

To me that sh*t is on par with a lobotomy.

also ketamine therapy seems to be showing some promise.

my psychiatrist that my insurance covers isn't very experimental. I can't take antidepressnts without horrid side effects, so I'm pretty game to be a science experiment and see what happens.

I think it goes without saying that my sh.t brain could probably be improved with literally any attempt they can get.

There's a lot of stigma around it because of how it used to be used (think One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest). It's really pretty rare/last-resort nowadays, though.

I was afraid I'd have to fight the doctor in order to get it, but when I asked he seemed relieved that I was the one to bring it up first.

i have a friend doing the ketamine trials and he really enjoys it

he's also a bit of a drug addict and he probably lied a bunch to get his way into that trial but he also has severe depression so my guess is 50/50

The line between wanting to get high off your medication because you have depression and wanting to get medicated is surprisingly thin sometimes.

There's a huge amount of stigma around it but if you look at actual academic papers (and not just articles by sensationalist journalists) it's actually very benign and beneficial when done properly.

Why not both?

That's my plan.

I got a kitten dosage of benzos, 0,25 mg one pill max three times per day. If I take four at once I'm kind of giddy for about an hour and then the effect disappears.

it destroys your short term memory, but i do remember the anesthesiologist being cute

overall do not recommend. i didn't choose it and it felt incredibly invasive. so many better things you can do for depression, depending on the root of it. diet/exercise/sunshine genuinely helps. get citrus essential oils and stick them up your nose. speak with good listeners who won't judge you... acknowledging we live in a sometimes very unkind world and that taking responsibility can mean accepting that it won't always feel good here and that's ok... depression isn't always misinformed ignore humans and speak with trees in the forest every once in a while.

Oh yes - my sister-in-law is a psychiatrist, and has done it a few times. It actually works for some cases (they wouldn't use it otherwise!) - I hope it helps you.
