I was having a conversation over the weekend about front and back doors. They were saying that this is a thing that is pretty local and other people don't really do it, so I'm wondering!

Everyone I know uses the back door to enter their home. Close friends and family also use the back door. If you do not know the person, you knock at the front door. The front entrance is more formal and used for guests that aren't super close.

So, is that true for you too?

And I never really even thought about it. But once this mom of my daughter's friend came over and knocked on the back door. I felt violated tbh. It felt too intimate for her to do that.

most people have gates and you have to go through the gate to get through to the backdoor. if i know someone well enough or vice versa they just enter without knocking.

Yeah no that’s weird. They’d have to open our fence to get to the back door.

I have a gate too! A lot of people do here too.

Do you guys enter your own front door?
21 days ago - Tuesday 12/26/17 - 9:35:17 PM EST (GMT-5)
yeah i don't have a key for my backdoor even
21 days ago - Tuesday 12/26/17 - 9:36:09 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don't want anyone near my backdoor!

Wait, you mean like on your house?

Wild!

Also the new German boyfriend guy had never seen a paper plate with the dividers for the food before, pretty funny.

I use the back door mostly because i get outside directly. By the front I have to go through 3 locked doors.

Omg and the German guy works or worked? for blizzard so I kinda geeked out all over him for two days straight and he is promising to send me some things when he gets back home.

Yeah, that's a thing where I live, too.

The backdoor is often a side of the house door, but same concept.

There is often a gate, but one just opens it.

I haven't used the front door to enter my mom's house, like, ever.

So, my apartment is weird in that it has two entrances and it's sort of backwards, really. The front door takes you into a carpeted living room and the backdoor takes you into a tiled kitchen. I use both for guests... if they show up, they come to the front door. If we're out and I invite them over, I usually lead them in to the back/kitchen door.

We seemed to always go though the garage right into the kitchen. Back doors in our houses would have been a pain to get to walking around the house in the grass and unlocking the gate from the outside.

My husband's dad's niece.
I'm having a hard time thinking what she is to us.
21 days ago - Tuesday 12/26/17 - 10:57:29 PM EST (GMT-5)
We don't keep our gate locked. I only lock it when I'm letting the kid run around outside alone.

But our garage kinda has a door that connects to the area inside the gate, we just don't even use the garage though because we don't have a door opener and it's inconvenient.

I use my back door because I have a detached garage. It leads into the basement. When I get older I'll use the front door because the stairs are kind of steep and the hill would be easier. I just like the back better for some reason.

Ha we don't have time even if we wanted to. Busy household right now.

Want a romantic getaway for two, tbh.

I would kill for some sort of tropical beach vacation right now.

It's definitely a thing here too. I have never used the front door at my grandparents houses or at friends places unless there is no other entrance. I wouldn't dream of knocking at somebody's backdoor for anything other than an emergency.
