I have a few friends that are super deep in crypto, one just cashed out and is nearing a retirement plan. Of course, I forever wish I had more than $60 in my bank account back when two of them first told me about it.

The main thing I know with etherium is that it is heavily used as a "middle man". People often buy it to convert into some of the newer currencies. A broker friend of mine started investing back in summer, and he's been on my ass to get involved. He helped my Dad get started a few months ago. I'm setting aside a small amount to start up in January or February, and he's throwing all sorts of poo my way that is slowly getting absorbed. I'll hit you up then and we can be confused investor buddies.

Same feeling I had. What a fun ride, had been a long time since I felt bummed reaching the end of a game. Managed to get that feeling a few times since. Best year for games in a crazy long time.

Be like the first guy to use bitcoins to buy something.
10,000 unita for two pizzas.

Currently worth $117,880,000

The Winklevi apparently took 11 million they got from the Zukerberg law suit and invested in bitcoin, which is now a billion dollars.

The best one I saw was recently a guy admitting he used 2 bitcoins to buy some weed from a savvy dealer friend back in the 2011 "bubble".

My husband wanted to buy bitcoins when they were super cheap. I laughed at him. He still rages about it to me from time to time.

I had to cash mine out to make ends meet at $283. Who’s I would have just asked my dad to borrow cash.

I have about $40 in box. I need to see if it will be profitable to plug my miner back in.

What's a box? What's a miner?
9 days ago - Wednesday 12/6/17 - 2:31:37 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don’t know what box was about must have been an auto correct.

A miner is a specialized computer that used to create a specific hash with a number of leading zeros by using a specific algorithm.

It’s what adds to the block chain ( the ledger that records all bitcoin transactions).

For being the miner that manages this you get rewarded with bitcoin.

There is so much hashing power that individuals have turned to pool mining. This members of the pool combining their resources and then subdividing the reward so get a steady flow bitcoin rather than waiting forever to possibly mine it on their own where they would get the entire reward whic is currently 12.5 bitcoin for solving

That’s an oversimplification.

But it’s expensive because it’s power intensive.

It was supposed to be Wallet not box

Also as it approaches $20k I expect the bottom to drop out again as people cash out and take their earnings. I’m going to try and buy some then if funds allow.

Ahhh I'm jealous you're in cryptocurrency tech support. That's so cool

Anyway I've been waiting for the bubble to burst since the $8000 mark. I wonder when it's going to happen. It's interesting to be consistently wrong in my prediction that the downturn is coming.

When it first hit 11k it dropped 25% if it’s value. But then it rebounded a day or two later.

Also I found this article a nice dumbing down of the concept

I know! So impossible to predict when it's going to run out of steam

Especially bitcoin, because it's almost all public sentiment atm. There is very little to say about its underlying value, in terms of quantifiable returns.
9 days ago - Wednesday 12/6/17 - 9:07:19 PM EST (GMT-5)
But it's a fascinating study of pure speculation

Re: this, there are real environmental concerns when it comes to BTC mining.
One estimate (on the high end) states that the power consumption equals that of the entire nation of Denmark. That is a problem, imo, and an unsustainable one.
