Why do people feel the need to post meaningless "trbutes" on someone's social media page within minutes of hearing of their death?

It just ensures that most of the deceaced friends and family will learn of their death on f*cking facebook.

On ones that copy and paste the same "tribute" are the worst.

There should be some ettiquette realy, like don't post about someone's death until their family has made a public announcement.

You mean random people?
That's messed up.
I've always thought the 'tributes' and e-mourning of celebrities was pretty fake and annoying. But what you're describing is messed up too. I'm glad I don't use fb or anything.

I’ve never seen this. But then again I only have mates on fb who are people I respect, and no one I’m mates with would post sh*t like that

Totally agree it’s innappropriate and thoughtless. Just looking for attention on the sickest level, I guess

Not neccessarily random people.

When my brother died his daughter and her friend posted on Facbook before anyone in our family knew.

So most people found out while they were at New Year's Eve parties.

Then what happens is once one person has posted it becomes like a river of copycat posts addressed to the deceaesed rather than anyone left behind.

No lie, that's how i found out my childhood dog was put to sleep my first semester away from home

Otherwise smart sister.
Have to tell her to take my name and picture off public posts repeatedly

Most ironic was watching the snowden movie and her "checking in" to the theater publicly

Facebook kills people's IQ.

When my father died, no one, including me, posted about it for a few days. After a few days i did post a 'tribute' paragraph, which my mom loved. As well as a couple other people.
I like the tributes.
But yeah, after a few days when everyone knows.
Plus i couldn't have posted before that anyway. I was still processing.
Fb must be a terrible way to find out stuff like that.

I found out one of my school friends had passed away on Facebook.
I don't mind people posting after the face but it really turned me off at the time.

One of my girls died, the team that work the festivals with me. People were posting RIP on her Facebook page before her sister even knew about it.

I had about 5 people remove posts but there were some who just posted and never bothered to look again. Like OK let's look at pictures of cats now. Next please.

timely.
I talked to someone yesterday and they said, " Did you see on FB that so and so passed away?"

I didn't because it wasn't in my circle of friends anymore, but in a way that's how I found out an old friend died. I guess we wouldn't have known if not for social media, as he lives about 1000 miles from us now.

weird world.

I've definitely found out that some people I went to school with had passed because of fb and I don't think I would have known otherwise unless my fam that still lives at home saw an obit in the paper and said something to me.

I posted something on fb the day my dad died, but everyone who mattered knew about it already.

I am guessing that it depends on the person who died.
I had a friend he was a huge social media fan, and he would have liked it.

I do get not posting inmeditely, but I have written tributes to friends I have lost over the years.

I was thinking of trying to make a meme with a donut card.

Something along the lines of: In the eventy of my death I don't want some donut posting about it on social media before my closest family have even had a chance to identify the body.

Friend died overnight, people were posting big RIP messages on her facebbok page at 7 am. That's what her sister saw when she went online.
