My coworker invited everyone in the office to his 3 year old's birthday party in a couple of weeks. Is it me or is that a little weird? I've always thought children's birthday parties are for their little friends and close friends and family, no? Luckily we are going to celebrate my stepfather-in-law's birthday out to dinner that day so I have a pretty good excuse not to go.

The little girl is darling, but we were just at his house a couple of months ago for a housewarming party and we also brought a gift.

My friend/coworker that I share an office with is like "enough already", totally channeling George Costanza.

We went to Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon Nation Park with my in-laws last weekend and we all had a great time. There are some photos in the Autumn thread in Generals.

We bought hiking boots before the trip and they were GREAT.

Wassup?

This is what happens when I try to not proofread since I do it for a living.

Inviting ones workplace to their child's birthday party is very strange. Does the guy have no friends or family?

Some parents do this because it's an excuse for the adults to party. It turns into this big drunken bash that isn't about the kid at all.

Sometimes it's hard to tell when people are trying to be friendly and inclusive or whether it's a cash grab.

Did you break in the boots at home at all or just wear them new there? What brand?

Thank you, sincerely!

I was wondering if maybe I was being a bitch about it.

He has tons of friends and family! He plays hockey with a team of guys, his in-laws live here, they have other friends, I've met them!

I'd rather play with the kid than get drunk, tbh.

cuck broke his in a little, but mine were brand new. I guess they "shoes" rather than boots, but they are ankle height and the brand is Salomon.

They really didn't require a break-in. They were amazing. I was impressed.

Maybe he's worried about offending someone if he dosen't invite all the staff? I sometimes do open invitations knowing only the people I get on with will come.

...but with coworkers?

No, they didn't!

My feet were tired at the end of the day, but not too bad considering and I had zero irritation, blisters, etc.

We also bought hiking socks to go with them.

What boots did you get?

I guess that's a thought, but the people who would normally show up are me, cuck, my officemate and her husband, and my boss if he doesn't have pre-existing plans. A few of these peeps don't go to anything.

These are my exact shoes (Salomon is the brand):

We've been to this guy's house multiple times over the years, tbh.

I got pretty much the male version of the same thing and a different color.
25 days ago - Thursday 10/26/17 - 6:54:48 PM EST (GMT-5)
Oh I love Salomon. Nice choice.

I tried Keens first because my mom likes them and they fit my narrow feet terribly. They kept slipping like a mofo, so I had to try something else.

We bought them at REI and they have that rock you can climb around on to see how they go and these were the best of the 3 pairs of shoes I tried on by FAR.

Yeah I also have the narrow foot issue. I had to give away a pair of Northface boots as they didn't stay put properly.
25 days ago - Thursday 10/26/17 - 6:59:38 PM EST (GMT-5)
I love Northface jackets, tbh.

I have one that I've had since I was a teenager still.
25 days ago - Thursday 10/26/17 - 7:01:12 PM EST (GMT-5)
North Face makes boots?
25 days ago - Thursday 10/26/17 - 7:01:56 PM EST (GMT-5)
I was looking at some winter jackets from them today, actually. I don't like the fact that the ones I'd want have down in them so the search continues.

me three on the narrow feet. Good to know about this brand if I ever do make it out west to hiking country.
