My mom wants to sell some stuff that might be worth a bunch (mint condition collectors duck calls, whiskey decanters, magazines, etc), and they have put me in charge of figuring out how and where to sell them.

Lucky me.
I know nothing about ebay. Or if there is anywhere else to sell things like that.
I can learn ebay. Then teach my older family members if that's the best way to go.

Help?

Not sure about the US, but shipping cost have gone up over here, so eBay is not as popular as it once was.

I recommend offering free shipping to the continental US, but adjusting the price in consequence.

Unless you don't sell at a fixed price and choose auction instead.

Kijiji is the place for local sale. It's loke Craiglist but it's owned by eBay.

Also, vintage stuff might sell better on Etsy.

Important:
eBay is relatively safe, but you need to be careful about a few things.

1- if a buyer as low feedback and high %, check the purchase history. It happens that some will buy sell several cheap items to build trust and go for a big con.
2- make sure they pay through paypal. They cover you for any transaction under 1000$.

I was going to say Facebook is a very popular way of selling thats for the usual unwanted furniture, books, games etc. Not sure it would be the best place for collectables unless you can find a group that specifically for that kind of thing. The problem then though is that you don't have much safety.

I would personally go with eBay.
