I've been trying to quit smoking every Sunday for the last month. I usually only make it a day or two. Yesterday was easy because there's not much going on at work and I had a friend I was texting all day to keep my mind off of smoking.

But today I was going crazy. I had to calibrate the pH meter 3 times before I got it right, I screwed up the paperwork multiple times, I forgot to turn off the sump pumps and start the waste and my boss had to tell me to do things over and over again.

So after lunch I gave up and bought a couple packs.

My concentration is sh*t when I'm trying to quit.

I can't put into words how bad I want to quit so I come up with this solution. Jackie is going on vacation next week and when he gets back on Tuesday the 17th I'm going on vacation. I'm taking off Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday then I get my regular days Friday and Saturday off.

Sunday is easy so by Monday I'll be starting my 7th Day and hopefully the worst of it is over.

Starting tomorrow I'm going to put a timer on my phone and wait one hour after each cigarette. I'm going to add five minutes a day until the 17th so I should be down to 8 cigarettes a day by the time I try to quit.

If this doesn't work I don't know what I'm going to f*cking do.

Probably died of lung cancer.

You've done it before. I know you can do it again.

Never successfully . I'm hoping this convulted plan will make it where I'm done for life

Did you ever try that chantix?
1 month ago - Monday 10/2/17 - 5:24:21 PM EST (GMT-5)
Good luck - hope it goes well for you. Keep trying; every time you don't have a ciggy is a mini-success!

Oh and gum too. That's a good way to throw up. Can't help swallowing a little spit.

It doesn't sound convoluted. You can do it. You sound motivated, which should be enough. Finding the motivation worked for my mom. It was a realization that she was smoking and slowly killing herself by her own choice, and on Sept. 11 after the second plane struck she was hit with the motivation to quit. She said "all of the innocent lives lost not by their choice, and I am just ruining myself one cigarette at a time". She quit, and never smoked again.

That is awesome jstck.

Maybe success stories will help motivate me I need all the help I can get

You can do it.
I did it!

It's so hard and it will always be a thing that you will have in the back of your mind that you want to do and your mouth literally waters for, but a lot more space between those times.

I honestly suggest vaping to anyone with a desire to quit. Actual real little machines, not those fake cigarette looking things. Set your nicotine to really high and gradually wean yourself off it.

The problem is I've been smoking for 30 years and I can't vape it makes me cough and hack so bad.

People say you can learn to use it but I have tried I can't.

Besides I want to be totally free of nicotine anyway

I appreciate the input though

It only takes a couple months to wean. Better than not being able to...

You ever smoke weed? You don't hit that the same as a cigarette. It's just a very subtle difference In the inhale. If you hit it like a cig you will dieeeeeee.

Right there with ya buddy!
I know when the feeling hits it can seem overwhelming, but it actually lasts about as long as it takes to smoke a ciggy.
I been breathing deeply through them acknowledging what it is,saying to myself it will pass.
The muddle-headedness, I have all the time anyway from the change so I just try to think a little bit slower.

For me the feeling comes in waves big crashing bastards. And the stupidity is constant . That's why I'm taking time off work I think that's the only way I can be successful

Try, try again

It's tough but you can do it
1 month ago - Monday 10/2/17 - 8:30:28 PM EST (GMT-5)
The way I see it is I'm trying again starting tomorrow by making myself wait one hour between cigarettes and adding five minutes a day until the 17th when I quit totally.

I see it as preparing the ground for success.

Big talk.

I'm good at that.

Dang I just found a flyer from the Jehovah's Witnesses in my front door.

Too bad I missed them.

They could have told me how Jesus would take the smoking away from me with no pain

It took me 20+ attempts to quit smokeless you can always try again

don't you have all those chewing gums and mouth sprays and pills and crap that help you stop? Nicobate I think it is..

we even have a quit hotline you can call when you get tempted so they can talk you out of it

I did patches the last time and I feel they make it harder and take longer because they keep nicotine in your system. That's why I'm trying cold turkey. When I more or less stopped (cheated a few times) for 26 days a few years ago I was constantly wanting a smoke while on the patch. It might still be that way cold turkey but I won't have the nagging thought that I'm prolonging the agony.
