I am registered, and at home, but I don't feel like I know enough about local politicians or whatever initatives are going up this year. There's nothing about repealing Prop 8... if there were, I'd be voting and even volunteering.

But I feel like it's worse to vote irresponsibly than to not vote at all, though I know that's hypocritical, because two years ago I voted without knowing anything.

Or maybe I should do some last minute research and make a semi-educated guess on who is right for the job of Sunnyvale Boredom Preservation.

Voting here is compulsory, though I don't vote
Monday 11/2/09 - 11:55:43 PM
I'm not voting, either, since local stuff isn't going to affect me...

Dude, voting for the state and local politicians is the MOST important thing you can do.

Everyone wants to get out and hit up the national elections, but EVERYTHING that those national level guys do is going to be affected, regulated, and altered by the state level at least, if not the local level.

I think you need to do your last minute research and go vote tomorrow.

The ballot in my district has only one thing on it, something about money for the local school district.

Not interested.

Dude, those "money for a local school district" things have the biggest impact on you personally that politics has to offer. Schools play a major role in people's decisions on where to live. If it were me, I'd be looking into it.

The problem is I don't live in the town i am registered in, so some of the local stuff wouldn't affect me
Tuesday 11/3/09 - 12:32:54 AM
I'm not voting either, because I'm lazy, and I don't give a f*ck.

Right, but it does affect people you know, such as presumably your parents. And you'll probably move back there for a time probably when those effects will be most felt.

everything effects you..maybe not directly, but certainly indirectly..

I don't get people who don't have their say when they have the chance..

especially people who are so politically minded..and then don't vote..

I dont' think I'd do much good just voting for the sake of voting
Tuesday 11/3/09 - 1:10:01 AM
Right, like if you go down there and russian rulette that thing, you're better off NOT voting. But you've got a few hours now to go and read up about the issues and it wouldn't even take you THAT long to do your civic duty.

kepi , do you know a good site? I searched stuff, and all i found was some "how christians should vote" site and mostly stuff about May's special election

For Cali? Not off the top of my head. I'd look up your district... So like... Google: California 11th district election 2009 ballot... And that SHOULD link you to something that's got all your ballot initiatives AND your elected official votes.

Then what I'd do is google them BY the code section number assigned to them, which is going to give you, probably, the most commentary you're going to find on them.

Easy, Trixie.

I googled "Santa Clara County ballot measures"

I looked at the people and one of them talked about solving sunnyvale's gang violence problem... we have crime in Sunnyvale? The only crime I see is how the whole town looks like it was bought in a designer suburb box.

Does anyone else spot the flaw in this argument?

You MUST vote! It's terribly important. Do some reasearch!
Tuesday 11/3/09 - 9:17:46 AM
or, research.
Tuesday 11/3/09 - 12:28:09 PM
I voted! Mailed mine in the day after I got it. For the items I didn't understand, I Googled them and found a site explaining it in terms I could understand. Easy peasy.
