My parents never had a party for their mortgage payoff...

What?
Is this really a thing?
Get them nothing, unless it's a note asking them to take over your mortgage payment.

I paid off a kayak I got last year. My xterra will be paid off in December.

I don’t think you need to get a gift for this... but if you feel like you want to or it’s (weirdly) expected I would bring a plant in a cute pot.

I'd go with just baking them something nice and a bottle of celebratory wine.

I think she has to send something in the mail...

I have no idea about gifts for that.

But I have a distant memory of being little and my grandparents having a small party about it and setting some paper on fire- whatever paper is disposable concerning a mortgage, I suppose.

I do have to send it through the mail

And i don't have to, but i want to she's super excited, my aunt is getting her a cake. It's not really a party party, mostly an excuse to have cake

I just can't figure out exactly what.

I was given an assortment of fine cheeses, chocolates, and a bottle of wine that suffered a fatality yesterday.

We're gifting my mother in law a lovely plant for the garden.

Sh*t, they should be throwing the party and treating everyone else. They have extra money now.

Not to get all real but my stepdad passed away suddenly a couple years ago and shes had a real hard time, emotionally and financially. This is a huge financial relief for her. My aunt has been subsidizing her a good bit.

She doesnt drink

I like the door mat idea! And the wall art! Im going to start perusing.
