I`ve recently moved and our new garbage pick up is leaving me unimpressed. We have a trash pick up once every two weeks, with recycling and food waste pick up... Who's Online | Find Members | Private Messages

When we moved in here we had to order New bins, like what the hell do people do to the bins when they move? Take them with them?

Oh, well we moved into a new build house. So there wouldn't have been bins before. But that is weird!

Sometimes neighbors steal them.

I've even had neighbors who try to swap their stinky and battered old bin for someone else's cleaner one with an unbroken lid... like no one would notice.

I wish they picked up electronics and the like from us, we have drop offs. But it's pretty inconvenient when you don't have a car. I never make time for it.

Rubbish is weekly
Recycling and green waste on alternating weeks

We just do our own conmpost

It all is fine but we often have too much green waste from the garden

We did request a bigger recycling bin when we first moved in

The smaller one wouldn’t have been enough

So leaf collection here is really weird.

The official policy is to rake all your leaves in to piles in the street and they will get "picked up". So far I've seen lots of leaf piles in the street, but I've not seen any picked up. From what I can tell, most of them just blow back in to the yards before whatever unspecified day or date they collect these leaves.

We put yard waste in compostable bags or green bins- that's really weird.

To the people who have mixed recycling pickup- can you put glass in?

We can here
But not all glass. Glass bottles and jars and things, yes. But not things like a drinking glass
I can’t remember exactly why. Just something to do with the type of glass

Our recycling is single-stream, so yes. It's glass, plastic (though not plastic grocery bags), paper, everything.

I just found out we can't put glass jars in ours! We always do.

Here it’s very much based on your local council and the facility it’s being taken to. If you really want to know what you can recycle in your area, you have to check.

They need to get that info out more clearly. The amount of people I know who thought aluminium cans are not recyclable is nuts. It is at the top of best recyclable items: glass and plastics can be recycled but aluminium cans can actually perform their original function perfectly, whereas glass and plastics generally can only be reused for “lesser” products than the original item
