I've recently moved and our new garbage pick up is leaving me unimpressed.

We have a trash pick up once every two weeks, with recycling and food waste pick up weekly.

And the trash bin is really small.

I might feel a little differently if we had received our recycling bins already but we haven't so we have our entire yard waste bin full of recycling at the moment and more in a closet from where it wouldn't fit.

Anyway, I feel like every 2 weeks is too little especially for slim/small rubbish bins. I worry about how it's going to work when we have dirty nappies to dispose of as well.

What's it like where you live?

Compost : 1 x week
Recycling: 1 x week
Trash: 2 x week

Paint, sanding residues, batteries, electric and electronic equipment, we have to bring to the triage centre.

Furniture is left on the sidewalk, garbage men notice the city and it is removed usually in 48 hours.

Leaves and Christmas tree are picked up twice during the year.

Is that trash twice a week or trash every two weeks?

We recently had to pay for furniture removal. £12 for a two seater sofa, not bad really!

We have rubbish and recycling collected on alternate weeks (as in rubbish one week and recycling the next)

same here...but green waste every week...it works well

each is once a week, which makes it easier for me.

Trash every two weeks
Organics and recycling every week

I find that we really don't have that much garbage, but our recycling is almost always overflowing (we share with our landlords).

We don't get green waste collected anymore - only if you live in town

twice a week.

All rubbish every Tuesday. Recycling isn't big here and they've only started it in nicer parts of the city for the last few years, so recycling people come by every week.

Welcome to the UK

We fill our bin in probably less than a week. We don't bother recycling much. We usually have to use the recycling bin (green) to hold some general waste so that when then general waste (black) is collected we can take the rubbish out of the green and put it into the black. We also have to ask my dad to come up and take some bags to the skip when it gets too much.

It used to be much better.

I read an article that some places have gone down to once every 3 weeks!! Just seems unsanitary to me.

My trash gets picked up weekly, and recycling is once every two weeks. We also have a compost pile out back, so that schedule works really well unless I forget to put it out.

yeah, here nappies ( diapers) go in the normal waste, which only gets emptied ever 2 weeks...so in the summer you can imagine the smell..

normal rubbish once a fortnight, recycling once a the other fortnight

Trash once a week, recycling once a week. I have to take the glass to the local recycling center and there is no such thing as a compost pick up here.

you're not supposed to throw away a poop filled diaper onto the trash. You're supposed to dump the solid waste into the toilet and flush. It's against world health organizations regulations and guidelines and says so right on the package of disposable diaper.

(But I know most people do not follow, or even know.

I've read that it's illegal to do so, but not sure if true, or how much it is pro-cloth advocates exaggerating.)

You could always cloth diaper!
They're amazing!

We have the garbage man come every week. I absolutely hate having to wheel the trash down my driveway. We have to haul recycling to a site ourselves.

How come you don't recycle much? Surely some of your garbage is actually recycling and would help with the overflow.
(Also great sorting opportunity for your son- what is recycling? What is garbage?)

Same with dog/cat waste here. Pretty sure no one does.

We had to do this the whole 2 years we lived in Orlando. Then two weeks before we moved to Seattle the complex we lived in installed a recycling center on site!

This is definitely news to me! Having worked with young 'uns and dirty diapers for many years, no facility I've ever worked at has practiced this.
