Mary Keitany set off at an extremely fast pace and although tiring over the 2nd half of the race, finished strongly in just over 2 hours seventeen seconds.

2nd place Tirunesh Dibaba was closing to around 30 seconds with 6 miles to go when she began to suffer from stomach problems resulting in her finish being 56 seconds behind the leader.

She beat Paula Ratcliffe's record in a women's only race by 41 seconds although Ratcliffe has run faster assisted by male pacemakers in a mixed race in 2003.

In contrast Keitany had a female pacemaker for the early stages of the race but led from the front for most of the course.

I need a rest after watching that
