Representative Steve King of Iowa, the nine-term Republican with a history of racist comments who only recently became a party pariah, lost his bid for renomination early Wednesday, one of the biggest defeats of the 2020 primary season in any state.

Mr. King was defeated by Randy Feenstra, a state senator, who had the backing of mainstream state and national Republicans who found Mr. King an embarrassment and, crucially, a threat to a safe Republican seat if he were on the ballot in November.

It won't be good if Feenstra is elected.

According to his website: "Randy is currently a leading conservative voice in the State Senate with a record of results defending Christian values, innocent life, the 2nd Amendment and Iowa taxpayers."

Feenstra is pro-life and his website says he is a "is a true Christian conservative and has been a leading voice defending life, including fighting to defund Planned Parenthood, sponsoring a bill that defined life at conception and is a strong supporter of amending the Iowa Constitution to not grant the right to an abortion."

"I will staunchly defend our God-given liberties from liberal attempts to infringe on them," Feenstra said. "In Iowa, we've blocked liberal gun control schemes like red flag laws while dramatically expanding 2nd Amendment rights for Iowans. In Congress, I'll keep fighting to protect these rights, just as I've done in Iowa."

So King wasn't enough of a dippoo. They had to up the ante. Sure this guy gets trumps support.

While it's true the other guy is bad, it's still nice to see one particular, specific white supremacist get his comeuppance.

probably preaching to the choir here, but steve king is not representative of conservative values if he's openly promoting white nationalism.

He wouldn't be representative of the current Republican party if he didn't at least tacitly support white supremacist racists.

...or so the Democrat talking points claim.

Yeah, they're supposed to do that on the down low.

He got elected for many terms while openly preaching white nationalism. And the GOP never bothered censuring him or taking away committee assignments for it until they couldn't escape the pressure to do so, extremely recently. He absolutely represents conservative values.

Of course he represents the values of the GOP. Look at the head of the GOP; he has an extensive history of racism. He has implemented racist immigration policies (e.g. travel ban, family separation, etc.). He called people chanting “blood and soil” and “Jews will not replace us” “very fine people.” He called people carrying Nazi & white supremacist flags “very fine people.” He has said he intends to designate Antifa, which is a movement rather than an organization, as a terrorist organization while declining to take such action against actual racist groups. Under Trump enforcement actions in the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division have decreased by 70%.

The GOP has passed criminal laws specifically designed to deprive POC of their right to own guns, vote, serve on juries.

The GOP has engaged in gerrymandering and voter suppression that disproportionately impacts POC by design.

GOP controlled states have pushed policies that disproportionately incarcerate POC because the states rely on slave labor.

The GOP is the party that defends Confederate monuments and pushes b.s. talking points about the history of the Civil War and Confederate monuments to protect racist symbols.

The GOP is the party that continually defends racist policing.

I could go on, but the fact is, the GOP is the party of racism, welcomes racists, and only takes action against racists when it is politically beneficial to them.

Nice spin, Court...

At least you refer to it as the 'travel ban' rather than 'Muslim ban'...

Hey, I just think it’s important to talk about how Steve King fits in the GOP while we’re Aryan all his racist conduct

I don’t hear a lot of conservatives defending white nationalism other than on grounds of free speech.

I think it’s more worrisome how I hear people on here embracing far left groups. The idea is the same. These groups have concluded on violent means to an end. We shouldn’t condone any of it.

Words mean nothing. Anyone can deny they’re racist. The GOP’s actions are proof of racism.

I think the whole country is still racist. I think there are Socio-economic barriers defined by race in legislation coming from both sides of the aisle.

I'm so glad Mr. Enlightened Centrist is here to tell us how being a socialist is exactly as bad as passing decades worth of laws to subjugate and harm people of color. Thanks for your input!
