Pete Buttigieg being gay is a barrier for some black voters and probably others.

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Addressing a conference of African-American church congregations in this vote-rich city, Pete Buttigieg quoted scripture on Sunday morning and extolled his “Douglass Plan” to combat racial inequities in America, one of several attempts this weekend to confront his strikingly low support among black voters.

But Mr. Buttigieg also undertook a delicate task before the African Methodist Episcopal worshipers. As a gay, married man addressing a denomination that does not allow same-sex marriage rites, he tried to seek common ground over being members of minority groups whose civil rights have come under attack.

A Monmouth University poll of Democratic likely primary voters in South Carolina released last week found Mr. Buttigieg at 3 percent overall, with just 1 percent support from African Americans.

Is America ready for a gay President? I hope so but probably not. I really think he is by far the best candidate. Don't care who he loves.

1 percent? I heard zero percent among black voters.

That ain't the reason he's polling so low.

i don't think we'll have a gay or atheist president for another 20-30 years, if you ask me. i hope to be wrong about that but those are far more significant barriers to overcome for america than being black.

i have no issues with people being gay or atheist but those are definitely two demographics that some people in america will oppose being president to the grave.

Yeah, I don’t mean to speak for black folks here, but from what I’m hearing the fact that he’s gay is not why he’s polling so low with black voters.
It has more to do with his record on African American issues being spotty at best.

He's also not exactly trying to woo those voters which is beyond stupid arrogance.

The fact that he claimed a whole bunch of black South Carolinians supported his "Douglass Plan" doesn't help. I mean considering that a) a bunch of them were surprised to learn they'd endorsed it, b) over 40% of the list of supporters was white people, and c) in the press releases, they used random stock images from Kenya.

When you pander, people tend to notice.

c) Was it claimed that the people in the pictures were actual supporters or something? I would think that the use of stock photos is a common practice for websites and print advertisements.

"Eh, who really cares? All black ppl are pretty much the same, whether they live in the US or in Kenya."

It's a stock photo- - they are rarely (if ever) intended to depict any specific person.

Massive surprise that CD can't understand why it's problematic to slap a photo of a lady in Kenya on your plan relating to black people in the US. I, for one, am *shocked*.

Then maybe you should insist that he pay to send photographers out and get pictures of actual people that his plan is intended to help rather than using the far more standard practice of using stock photos...

Do you think that people in commercials are real people that actually use the products they are appearing with rather than actors/models?

A black college friend of mine wrote an oped to the school newspaper basically talking about how upset he was when the college used his face for admissions material without his permission.
The picture was a zoom in taken from what he thought was going to be a group photo and felt that his image was being used to improperly represent the demographics of what was actually a predominantly white college.

So yeah.
I’d say that sh8t is problematic.

Using a picture/photo without permission is problematic. That's the reason people typically use stock photos.

Permission was not the issue. This is how the image is displayed on the website of the content creator (a.k.a. person who took it and controls the rights):

It f*cking clearly says "KENYA" in the geotag. If you're looking for a photo to use in your plan to combat racism IN THE UNITED STATES, you could at least take five seconds to find a stock photo of a black person who is IN THE UNITED STATES, and not on an entirely different continent that is irrelevant to your plan.

This is extremely basic "eh, they all look alike" stuff. So again, not surprised CD can't grasp the issue.

So what?

It is a stock photo- - it's not really a 'they all look alike' situation to anyone but race baiters like you.

Do you honestly think that Pete Buttigieg is racist for not checking the photo locations for the stock photos used?
20 days ago - Monday 11/18/19 - 7:35:23 PM EST (GMT-5)
...or is this just a way to paint him in a negative light in order to gain political advantage?
20 days ago - Monday 11/18/19 - 7:43:47 PM EST (GMT-5)
It's possible he didn't know the photo image had that location on it before. If/when it was pointed out, though, he should have had his team change it.
