The San Francisco Board of Supervisors passed a resolution Tuesday that declares the National Rifle Association a "domestic terrorist organization."

After connecting the NRA to an "epidemic of gun violence" in the U.S., the resolution urges San Francisco to distance itself from the organization by examining local vendors' and contractors' ties to the NRA. It also says the local government should avoid doing business with the NRA or organizations associated with it.

"The National Rifle Association spreads propaganda that misinforms and aims to deceive the public about the dangers of gun violence," the resolution reads.

It'll be a while before everyone else catches on to this but at least there's one major American city on board and that's a good place to start.

I guess I’d be considered a terrorist in SF.

In a nutshell, what is the Board of Supervisors?

What a dumb thing to say. We're talking about not even all gun owners, but an extremist organization whose positions are out of step with the vast majority of people in this country (*including* many gun owners).

Basically the committee that governs the city operations. I don't know how SF divides up power, but as a general rule, if you want to think of the Mayor as like the executive branch of city government, the Board of Supervisors is like the legislative branch.

The first step in defeating one's political enemies is to apply a negative label...

Yeah, I read an interesting paper about disenchanted NRA members who are now joining an organization created by (forgot her name, elected legislator who got shot few years back).

I don’t know how big a decline the NRA will face, but I sure hope it’s the beginning of the end. (In case you wonder, yes, they do some backdoor lobbying in Canada)

Local schools on lockdown today because of a "family dispute" near one of the schools, which resulted in a "distraught person" leaving the home with at least one firearm.

Very cool that the boyfriend loophole is big enough to drive a truck through, so when/if they catch up with this guy, this incident of likely domestic violence might not even end with him having to give up his guns!

Exactly. But I'm sure bird has proof that the "distraught person" is a man. Or she'll find proof. Or at least state that in this type of scenario, it's most likely to be a man. Because statistics!

I would assume that the "boyfriend" loophole would apply equally to both sexes, despite the label...

And? Go take a look at domestic violence statistics, particularly the ones that a) involve firearms, or b) end in the death of one partner, and let me know why you think it might be called the "boyfriend" loophole.

It appears to be a sexist label.
1 month ago - Friday 9/6/19 - 2:17:50 PM EST (GMT-5)
Go look at those stats I mentioned, and you might just learn something about how the colloquialism came to be. That is, if you can pull your head out of your own ass enough to actually read something, rather than just spouting your idiotic garbage around here.
1 month ago - Friday 9/6/19 - 2:20:25 PM EST (GMT-5)
It's still sexist terminology. Pointing out sexism isn't 'spouting idiotic garbage'.
