Tell everyone what donald said about the twin towers.
5 months ago - Monday 6/17/19 - 12:00:22 PM EST (GMT-5)
That was old footage that I just personally hadn't seen before, but he said if they were full of asbestos, they wouldn't have burnt down.
5 months ago - Monday 6/17/19 - 12:11:29 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yeah he also went on TV *the afternoon* of 9/11 and made crass remarks about how he had the tallest building in downtown Manhattan now that the twin towers were gone (which still wasn't true iirc).

That one I did hear about.

Me, too.

I just hadn't heard his brilliance on asbestos until yesterday.

Anyone see the footage of him kicking Mulvaney out of the Oval Office for coughing? I loathe Mulvaney, but the way Trump spoke to him was excessively rude.

Latest Trump tweet:
“All in for Senator Steve Daines as he proposes an Amendment for a strong BAN on burning our American Flag. A no brainer!”

You’d have to have no brain to ignore the fact that this ban would be unconstitutional.

Ohhh, is THIS why that brain genius Candace Owens was talking about it yesterday? She thinks the appropriate punishment for burning a flag should be rescinding someone's citizenship.

I had to look this up. But I'm not surprised he was so rude. You work for Trump, you check your self-respect at the door. Mulvaney probably gave him a written apology for being sick/having allergies.

Daines is proposing an amendment to the Constitution.

I have to say, if that gets any traction while the ERA still hasn’t be passed, I’ll f*cking scream.

Freedom of speech is one of our most important freedoms. I understand it has its limits, such as not being allowed to yell fire in a crowded theater, but the more exceptions you make, the more you take away from freedom of speech. You can’t just ban any speech you happen to disagree with. That goes against the whole concept of having free speech to begin with. I hate flag burning, but I hate tampering with free speech even more. It’s what sets us apart from most of the world.

Yeah, I missed that word amendment when I read that. I just read ban.

Who is actually asking for an amendment banning flag burning, anyway? This is just some junior senator trying to make a national name for himself by playing "I'm A Better American Than You."

It has no chance of passage. No chance of ratification. And it's being introduced by the party of these dumbasses:

yet some people are okay with tightening restrictions on free speech. if there's an immediate threat of violence i understand.

not sure how many cases of flag burning are reported per year, but i don't think it requires a constitutional amendment.

Isnt it a little weird that they’re against tampering with the flag, yet they do that to the flag?
5 months ago - Monday 6/17/19 - 1:43:15 PM EST (GMT-5)
Who would cases of flag burning be "reported" to? It's legal, protected speech.

Is there a Flag Burning Watchdog group that you're aware of that I'm not?

Not once you understand that hypocrisy isn't a bug for the GOP, it's a feature.

It’s a paradox

i wouldn't be surprised if there was one. i'm just wondering if flag burning is so common that it would require a constitutional amendment. those things aren't easy to pass.

also burning the flag, at least in some parts of the country, could be considered an immediate threat of violence, now that i think of it.

...no it couldn't.

“Actually Orwell wrote the book after becoming disillusioned with the communists after his experiences in the Spanish Civil War and his fear that WW2 would result in the collapse of democracy. The warring states are Socialist and "Neo-Bolshevic" (practically identical) but it is an indictment of both the totalitarian regimes of Left and right that existed in the 1940's” - Bored in the last thread

Orwell was more or less indicting the shift to totalitarian states that could occur in any ideology. But he was still an avowed socialists even after his experiences in Spain. And I cringe when he is co-opted by the right wing because the man stood for basically none of what modern conservatism is.
