Denver is poised to become the first city in the nation to effectively decriminalize psychedelic mushrooms.

After closing an early vote deficit Tuesday night and early Wednesday, final unofficial results posted late in the afternoon showed a reversal of fortune — with Initiative 301 set to pass narrowly with 50.6 percent of the vote. The total stands at 89,320 votes in favor and 87,341 against, a margin of 1,979.

The Denver Elections Division will continue accepting military and overseas ballots, but typically those numbers are small. Results will be certified May 16.

Work's about to get more interesting for me.

These were made illegal here about 12 years ago.

People in Amsterdam had cultivated south American and Hawaiian mushrooms until hey had a commercial product. There were no laws against these particular mushrooms. They were on sale at all the music festivals but eventually spread to High st stores. That was a bridge too far.

In Amsterdam you have to be a resident to buy them, too many tourists were getting run down by bicycles and cars.

This should be interesting. I can see a whole lot more complications with this than legalizing marijuana.

well people were pushing that smoking weed would lead to increased crime and everything for a while, so it would be interesting to see what would happen if shrooms were legalized.

I wouldn't be concerned so much with crime rates as much as I'd be concerned with DUI incidents/situations...

Man, some people have some really weird/Reefer Madness-y ideas about what the average person does when they're under the influence of psilocybin.

Is laughing at funerals a crime?

Don't forget this will be completely different than legalizing weed. In part because it isn't legal: just decriminalized. And just in Denver. You won't be able to buy it in stores and there won't be the huge ag/pharma money dumped in to grow operations and R&D.

While I do think psylicibin has some real potential in terms of medical uses, it's also much easier to overdose on and the potential consequences are much greater.

I read a little about the health risks of magic mushrooms, it doesn’t sound good.

Though, I did have a co-worker who would take them and was quite happy with them.

They don’t interest me one tiny bit. I like being in control of my brain.

I would never suggest psychedelics (or any drug, for that matter) are for everyone, and it's fine that some people are totally disinterested. I just also think it's really dumb to criminalize possession of a plant that grows wild basically everywhere in the country minus the actual desert and Alaska.

There is a sh-tload of shrooms on the Alaskan part that sides with BC. There is a lot in BC. Some of the best.

It was my favorite « drug » back in the days. It needs some self discipline.
- never on an empty or full stomach.
- only if you are in a good mood.
- never in a crowded place. Two or three friends.
- only half a gram. And only drink beer.
(This is not a recommendation, those were my personal rules).

Some of the best trips of my life. The only thing I tried once and loved it better was opium. And I stayed away from it because I loved it too much. (Circumstances were magical)

Oh I didn't know. I was just guessing based on climate.

Those are basically the rules I tell people who are new to it. You get out what you put in, for the most part.

(All of this is long behind me now, but I had some younger friends who were interested more recently, some in microdosing effects on depression and anxiety...basically what I told them was if you try to microdose, be prepared to trip anyway, because it's fairly unpredictable dosage-wise)

Also, I had a friend say the exact same thing about opium. She tried it once, loved it a lot, and decided that had to be the one and only time or it could be a very large problem.

Also, not a plant FYI. Evolutionarily speaking, mushrooms are much more closely related to humans than they are to plants.

Well OK, it's a fungi. But that's not really my point.
16 days ago - Thursday 5/9/19 - 9:54:41 PM EST (GMT-5)
I get tired of reading about fungi sometimes, tbh.

There's a lot of drugs that grow wild - same position on all?
