The 2026 World Cup will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico after their joint bid beat Morocco's proposal to host it.

The 'United 2026' bid was selected by Fifa member nations, winning 134 votes compared to 65 for Morocco.

The 2026 tournament will be the biggest World Cup ever held - with 48 teams playing 80 matches over 34 days.

"Football is the only victor. We are all united in football," US Soccer president Carlos Cordeiro said.

"Thank you so, so much for this incredible honour. Thank you for entrusting us with this privilege."

Of the 211 Fifa member nations, 200 cast a vote at the 68th Fifa Congress in Moscow on Wednesday, with the winning bid needing a majority of 104.

So I can avoid it at all costs.

I'm not sure why these three countries needed to team up. They could each easily have hosted the World Cup alone.

japan and south korea jointly hosted in 2002, so it was a matter of time before a joint bid was done again.

Has Trump taken credit for this yet?

I wonder how many breifcases stuffed with cash this decision took.

This is all well and good (and probably incredibly corrupt), but since when is Cincinnati in the middle of Tennessee?

(This is why editors cringe when they don't get final approval on graphics as well as text)

To be fair, most of Cincinnati's best venues (at least when I was in Ohio) were technically in KY.

Only reasonable they jumped another state away in the time I've been gone!

Those dots are not well-placed, but they're not as far off as you're making them out to be.

Cincinnati's on the Ohio River, which is the border for Ohio and Kentucky. I launched off on a riverboat cruise from there once upon a time.

It's more the relative placement. Cincinnati is not south of D.C.

I think the placement might have been right at first but the whole map got distorted after. Look at St Lawrence River, it’s North-South.

I think what we should alll be concerned about is where the Great Lakes went off to.

But also I think this is pretty cool and generally speaking a good idea.

I think Cincinnati also just got the go-ahead for a new soccer stadium so that will be helpful. I wonder how they determined that Canada and Mexico get 3 cities each and the US has like 16? Will there be equal number of games in each country or each city?

Maybe not, but it's shown well north of Nashville. Cincinnati's clearly not shown to be in the middle of Tennessee.

That's what I was getting at, CD.

(Now that I've agreed with CD, it's time to off myself.)

The label for washington d.c. is in the way. They should have moved the label to the right so cincinnatti's location wasn't so f*cked up.

Who will make the goalposts?
2 days ago - Monday 6/18/18 - 8:55:01 AM EST (GMT-5)
ok, but can we get back to the actual information? Will all cities labelled in the map have matches? Equal number of matches per city or per country?
2 days ago - Monday 6/18/18 - 8:57:06 AM EST (GMT-5)
Ah, ok. US gets like 60 matches; Canada and Mexico get 10 each.
