Re: shutdown

Yes it only lasted six hours, but it still happened.

And it happened on a Thursday leaving many government works unsure if they should report to work. This was possibly more disruptive than the shutdown 2 weeks ago. The Office of Personnel Management updated their website at 9:30 AM ET saying to report to work. When I was a federal employee I was to start my shifts at 8:00 AM so I wouldn’t have got the notice until after my shift started. And I had a an almost hour commute. Considering the seat of the federal government is located in the eastern time zone I would assume there was considerable disruption.

^^Right, and obviously not everyone who works for the federal government lives near D.C., but a lot do, and an hour commute is pretty standard there.

As expected, everyone has just sort of moved on from the fact that most of the White House knew the domestic abuse stuff and just swept it under the rug...there is some talk that they actually stopped his security clearance process from being completed, because a denial is something that follows you for a long time, while an "incomplete process" where he had a temporary clearance is not. Gaming the system to protect a wife beater. And it's barely even f*cking news in this administration.

Aaaaaand a speechwriter has also resigned after domestic abuse allegations.
These people. Ugh.

Outrage fatigue

Lol they won’t declassify the Dem Memo.

They say they will do it if it’s rewritten to protect sources and methods ( which is a legitimate concern) but didn’t really care that much when it was the republican memo

No one sticks to anything, and nothing sticks. Even Russia, which replaced nearly everything else, gets a new shiny every 45 minutes, with a ratio of about 15/1 in sh*t that actually might matter.

Imagine if Mueller ends up with with no charges. People may be able to focus their outrage for one final spellbinding moment, in which they spontaneously combust.

Not to be that guy, but he's already got two guilty pleas, so, uh. "No charges" isn't really possible at this point.

*Nothing of real consequence to Trump and his ability to continue being president to full term.

The only thing anyone actually cares about.

All of the memo crap was dumb from the start (the first one was a bunch of nothing and the second one wouldn't even exist if not for it), but yeah they're really showing their hand with this.

They rewrote the rep memo for the same stuff...

The memo as sent to Trump and released, was rewritten to fix objections of FBI Director Wray and other intelligence agencies?

Would you please point me to a source? I hadn’t seen that anywhere and could not find one via a google search. I try to eliminate bias from my searches but sometimes we get stuck in our silos and I sincerely would like to read the reports on it.

Remember when the Dems claimed that the released memo wasn't the same as the original?
3 months ago - Friday 2/9/18 - 10:22:55 PM EST (GMT-5)
So in other words, no, he doesn't have a source that confirms the GOP memo was changed specifically to fix the issues Wray, et al. had with it.

I care about more than just that. It says something about a president when members of his administration are accused and found guilty of crimes.
3 months ago - Friday 2/9/18 - 10:30:26 PM EST (GMT-5)
I found this:

A spokesman for the committee's Republican majority said the changes to the memo were "minor edits," such as grammatical changes, "and two edits requested by the FBI and by the minority themselves."

In the Washington Post, but this was before it got to Trump and Wray was still on record as opposing the release of the memo at that time.
3 months ago - Friday 2/9/18 - 11:01:08 PM EST (GMT-5)
Right, Wray never changed his statement about the memo, even after edits were made. He's Trump's handpicked FBI Director, so you would expect he'd amend and say "yeah, this is better now" if it really was.

Perhaps Wray's objections had more to do with the FBI having the appearance of acting on behalf of political motivations rather than the issues of security concerns...

Nope, that's not what he said.

You really think he's going to admit that his FBI was lacking in integrity?
3 months ago - Friday 2/9/18 - 11:14:02 PM EST (GMT-5)
It wasn't "his" FBI at the time, genius.
3 months ago - Friday 2/9/18 - 11:15:29 PM EST (GMT-5)
He's Trump's handpicked guy. If he'd thought there were integrity issues with the FBI before he took over, you don't think he'd take the opportunity to say so, and defend the guy who appointed him.

You're really stretching now.

Doesn't matter. It's a matter of ruining the public trust of the organization.
3 months ago - Friday 2/9/18 - 11:36:07 PM EST (GMT-5)
Uh, yeah. It does matter.
