Though YouTube star Logan Paul has faced severe criticism for posting a video to his channel that appeared to show a body hanging in a Japanese "suicide forest" (which he later deleted and apologized for), it appears the platform itself is also to blame.

Idk about YouTube itself but this dude is so insensitive and his apology so self-serving. Obviously he went there hoping to film something shocking and it’s amazing he didn’t realize people would be upset that he exploited someone’s pain.

you know honestly f-ck YouTube

theyll post videos like this and not take them down but videos or people talk about their experiences being gay or LGBT are taken down or censored

i really wish more of my favorite content providers moved to a different platform because i’m tired of youtube

Youtube "news"

This guy is a douche. Always has been. I wish people would stop giving him attention.

What else has he done? I didn't even know his name until yesterday.

The last time I heard about him is when he faked being color blind and got those color blind glasses and made a video where he gets super emotional about it.

H3H3 made a pretty funny video parodying it.

YouTube censors or demonitizes videos willy nilly. They don't apply the rules equally across the board. If they think a video is too violent or hate speech, etc. they will demonetize it or remove it. The problem is that it is subject to their definition of "too violent", "hate speech", "racist", etc. A lot of the YouTubers I watch are getting demonetized. And I'm not even talking about some political channels. Mainly the pranksters are being hit hard with this. But not just them, even casey neistat got demonetized.

Why am I not surprised that noldor watches YouTube prankster videos.

The Paul brothers are both major assholes, and Logan may actually be a sociopath, but these two don’t represent the entire YouTube community.

However I’m really worried about how this is going to affect other creators. I don’t want to see this hurt other youtubers.

And for that to happen youtube needs to actually do something about this, but so far I haven’t seen any response from them.

As far as Logan Paul goes, I saw an edited version of the video in question. It didn't look that bad to me. It does look like he was totally surprised by the dead body. But afterwards, they were kind of nervously giggling about it. It wasn't as if they were outright laughing at the body or making fun of the whole thing.

Honestly Boogie2988’s open letter to Logan Paul is probably the best response I’ve seen to this so far.

As if that's a bad thing

It's still someone's dead body. The correct response to having accidentally filmed that is to cut that part from the video and never put it up to start with. It's not like this was a livestream, unless I'm really missing something here. He had to film this, go through the film in the editing process, choose to use that portion of the recording, edit it together, and upload it.
(To say nothing of the appropriateness of filming in that forest to begin with, which seems like a cynical, sensationalized ploy for views)

He did say he was going to do some sort of commentary about suicide before they came up on the body. Is he not allowed to talk about suicide?

I don't believe I made a value judgment in that post. I just said it wasn't surprising.

Youtube's response has been so incredibly apathetic.

And Logan Paul was surprised by finding a dead body in a place notorious for suicides, that is one of the top suicide destinations in the world? OK, whatever.

The very fact that he went there to film is 'making fun of the whole thing.' Anything is justified for views, tho, right?

Because making a commentary about suicide is totally the same as visiting a place that's known for people taking their lives, coming upon a dead body, filming it, and choosing to use that footage in your video.

As a suicide survivor, I’m not offended by someone speaking about suicide on YouTube.

I am however, very offended by the carelessness and lack of tact he took to approach this situation.

To show the body is completely disrespectful to not only victims of suicide, but more importantly, that persons family and that person themselves.

Also, the majority of Logan’s audience is young people. This is not something that young people should be seeing, especially handled in such a disrespectful way.

Youtubers are a plague.

If you want to make a video about suicide, then there's nothing wrong with featuring a place that is known for suicides.

But I agree, he probably should have edited out the body.

It's exploitative to go there and do this. How can you not understand that?

Every medium has its assholes.

Certain youtubers have been there to provide entertainment for me in moments where I was at my worst.

These guys don’t speak for all youtubers.

I actually like all the tech help you can get. And « the great war » bunch are dedicated and rarely boring.

But the shock jock, like you say, and watch mojo type are ridiculous.

I watch more youtube than TV these days, tbh.
