Two Senate committees probing Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election have now asked for materials related to Green Party candidate Jill Stein's campaign.

Why are investigators interested in Stein? The environmentalist, an advocate of better relations with Russia, has been a Kremlin favorite since her first run as the Green Party's presidential candidate in 2012. She has regularly appeared on Russian state-owned television, including RT, and famously sat across from Russian President Vladimir Putin at a 2015 gala dinner.

One would think they could come up with a better title for Maja Kusturica...

I don't think any of this is new information. I do wonder whether the special counsel is investigating her at all, though, or if this is just an attempt by the senate committees to muddy the waters.

jill stein spent more time dissing clinton over trump, so i could see a possible connection there. the article said she got more votes than the margin of defeat. i'd like to see how this develops.

None of that really has anything to do with Russia, though.

I think two things:

1. Jill Stein is weirdly pro-Russia (even though it's not really that weird when you consider that a lot of her ideas are pretty crackpot to start with).
2. Jill Stein spent a lot of time bashing Clinton because she (I believe accurately) figured most of her votes would come from the possible Clinton voter pool, rather than the possible Trump voter pool.

None of that adds up to her colluding with Russians to help Clinton lose. That's why I'm saying I wonder if the *special counsel* is investigating her, or if this is just the republican-led senate committees trying to muddy the waters of the Russia investigation.

My guess is they are investigating her so that she can be ruled out because of pictures like the one dissy posted.
