Boy he's a douche.

The thing that really makes me laugh is his use of capitalisation in his tweet about it not being the White House or the State Department that got those lads out "IT WAS ME".

He's such a dr*ting child.

Sometimes, when I think I'll never be surprised by something sh*tty he does again, he manages to prove me wrong.

Bringing up Elizabeth Warren completely out of the blue, and calling her "Pocahontas" is one thing. I think everybody just expects the garden-variety racism now.
Doing that at an event to honor the Navajo Code Talkers was not something I expected. He really said that to them. In front of a portrait of Andrew Jackson, because of course.

Just saw that.
It’s also hilarious how he sounds like he doesn’t know what to say to congratulate the Navajo.

Well it's probably hard to think of things to say when you only barely know who people are, or why they were important.

I just watched the news clip. It sounds like he knows very well who those people are and why they were important. The Pocahontas remark was just another swipe at Elizabeth Warren who claims to be Native American though proof of it is very weak.

Apparently Sarah Sanders tried to defend this and claim it wasn't a racial slur.

General Secretary of the Alliance of Colonial Era Tribes: "uhhh, yes. It is a racial slur."

That absolutely kills me. Under a different president, this would have been a great opportunity to learn about what the code talkers did, how their language and culture made them uniquely qualified to serve as code talkers, and how they fared after serving their country.

Instead, Trump couldn’t pass up the opportunity to display his ignorance and racism. That’s the story now.

Right?! The whole thing was just ridiculous, when it could have been a lovely ceremony honoring them. Maybe he could have even learned a thing or two. But he just had to open his idiot mouth.

"White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said, "What most people find offensive is Senator Warren lying about her heritage to advance her career." " - yup

"Warren has said she is proud of her heritage, citing "family stories" in defense of her claim of Native American ancestry, though she has never produced documentation."

"You are very, very special people."

Geezus. Even I know about the code talkers. B:|

1. No one owes you documentation of their family heritage
2. None of that makes what Trump said not a racial slur. It was highly inappropriate and you know it.

2. Yep.

He needs a few filters or a hundred.

Geezus.

I’m kind of torn on the need to back up claims of American Indian heritage because so many people falsely believe they have American Indian heritage because their ancestors paid to be placed on Dawes Rolls. I think it’s important that people understand how their ancestors’ actions benefited them at the expense of actual Americans Indians.

But Trump doesn’t give a crap about learning from history. In fact, he will happily distort history if he can benefit.

I think that stuff is important for people to know about themselves—but I don't think the public has a right to demand that information about someone else.
It's also worth saying that there's no reason to think she's claiming that heritage in bad faith, which is not something I could say about those who question her on the claims. I mean clearly Trump is just trying to be an asshole, but before that, it was Scott Brown's campaign (and the right-wing pundits who supported him). Those people didn't give a damn about the history of how some people came to claim "Native American" heritage. They just wanted to use it as a cudgel.

Also, once you get back to a certain point, it can be hard to get documentation of that stuff. My grandmother did a TON of genealogy work in her life (not just on our family), and native heritage was something we knew about in our family because of oral tradition. Proving it took her years because of how poor the record-keeping was.

Trump has warren’s real 23 and me report.

I told my wife it was like he was greeting people from the speak olympics.

It all looked very patronizing.

You would think at least someone like him could read a room.

In other news Flynn’s lawyer was meeting with the special prosecutor’s office today.

Imagine the uproar if Trump falsely claimed to be part Native American to advance his career.

No matter what the story is with Warren's heritage, the idea that she's ever used it to "advance her career" is just false.

I seriously read ' meathead ' at first. As in Rob Reiner. Lol.
