White guy, mid-20s, AR-15.

Gosh, I am just so shocked by all of these facts.

I’m guessing this one isn’t a millionaire.

He was dishonorably discharged from the Air Force in 2014 (CBS, but it's being widely reported)

That's very interesting, because I'm pretty sure a dishonorable discharge is treated like a felony conviction, which would mean he shouldn't have legally been able to get a gun.

Terrible praying for all of the members of this church.

OK, so the reporting now is that his discharge was "Bad Conduct" and not dishonorable. I didn't know the difference until now (still mostly don't), but apparently BCD doesn't preclude you from owning a gun.

But of course, of F*CKING COURSE, his court martial was for domestic abuse.

You want a common-sense gun control measure? Ban anyone ever convicted of DV from owning a gun. The link between DV and mass shootings has been reported on extensively, not to mention domestic abusers pose a continuing threat to their victims if they're allowed to own guns.

I know dishonorable discharge means you don't get an VA benefits, what about "Bad Conduct"? Particularly relevant given that our Cheeto in Chief has said this was a mental health issue and not a gun issue.

Which, honestly, and this point I'd be willing to swallow if he weren't simultaneously desperately trying to take healthcare away from as many people as possible.

Is it just me or does it feel like people are becoming desensitised to the frequency and severity of gun violence in America?

I feel this is the case.

You get all these lone wolves, i’m Just waiting until you get an entire squad of nutters working together as a unit using practiced tactics. Maybe then it will feel worth getting all riled up.

At this point we are just letting it happen.

When it comes to shooting and mental health problems I feel people are to quick to assume certainty.

I have a hard time squareing the circle that we can expect soldiers to take a life and suggest there is no mental illness, but if a civilian takes a life and they are automatically deranged.

Of course there are differences, but the similarity is that they see there target as an adversary.

Well, when I read this news, my very first thought was, "Again?"
It does seem like mass murder is becoming so commonplace as to feel weary about the news instead of emotional or shocked. That can't be a good thing.
