That escalated quickly

Spacey is probably done working for a while anyway.

The last season was garbage, anyway. They should have killed it off already.

I hope Robin Wright can find a great project to move onto next. She made a fascinating Claire.

I don't really think they should keep going on with it. I agree with Bird that it ran its course.

I thought the last season was pretty bad until the last few episodes
they set themselves up for a potentially interesting season, but it probably wouldn’t work without spacey

I want to see wright in all the things

I’m not worried. Hers is probably one of the greatest comebacks in Hollywood.

Officially fired from Netflix- no house of cards with him and no gore movie.

i think he has set gay people back quite a bit. you can't just say you're gay to excuse yourself from sexually assaulting a minor.

It's kinda more like he is a creep, anyone that thinks of setting back gay people is probably reaching for a reason to do so.

I thought that Spacey was pretty widely criticized for his coming out announcement. I don't think it is a matter of 'reaching for a reason' when thinking that he's setting back gay people.

I don't think so, he's been called out on that numerous times. It was a gross attempt to divert attention and it clearly didn't work.

I've been noticing a lot of people have been saying that people are accepting that his accusers are truthful and no one has been asking what they were wearing (they are male), a refreshing change from Weinstein.

if someone wants to assume that gay people prey on children they probably didn't need spacey saying that to put it into their heads. He was criticized, rightfully so, because of him trying to make an excuse.

They might not have needed Spacey to put the idea into their heads, but I think that Spacey did reinforce the idea and has contributed to a perpetuation of the stereotype.

i don't think we are disagreeing. If it's in their heads, then they're trying to find a reason to set them back.

I have noticed this too.
And I want to hope it's because of the age gap/ minor thing.

Then I realize people make excuses for men doing the same thing to girls. Daddy issues, etc.

...and really, they should be playing up his current issues and allegations concerning House of Cards cast members. When I initially saw this thread, I thought he was being dismissed because of the assault on the 14 year old rather than his current actions.

I think this is where we disagree. I think that some of those people have been brought up in a homophobic environment and are trying to find a reason to accept gay people as 'good people'.

This is where I think the damage has been done. Those that are trying to change their thinking to become more accepting might now less likely to change their minds.

if someone hates a gay person just for the fact that theyre gay i genuinely doubt they’re looking for a reason to accept gay people
12 days ago - Tuesday 11/7/17 - 10:04:04 AM EST (GMT-5)
Maybe, but I don't think it was a Big push to convincing them that their prejudice is confirmed. Gay and straight creeps prey on under 18.

If that's the case, then how does one explain the increasing acceptance of gay people in modern society? I think it's pretty clear that attitudes are shifting to be more gay friendly...

It doesn't take a big push- - which is exactly why this is such an issue, and why I am among those that think that this does set back gay people.
12 days ago - Tuesday 11/7/17 - 10:12:38 AM EST (GMT-5)
I mean I can't say for sure why it's changing- but I would say the more that people have direct contact and connections (someone they know and are close to) is gay their opinions start to change. Though not all of course- there are people who disown etc. and the younger generation of course.

I don't think anyone who saw what happened with Kevin spacey and them thought all gay people are like him would have been the ones that were changing opinions to be more acceptable.
12 days ago - Tuesday 11/7/17 - 10:39:52 AM EST (GMT-5)
I would agree that more direct contact, or even contact through celeb status does help change opinions toward acceptance. The trouble with Spacey's situation is that it plants doubts in the minds of those who are in the process of changing their opinions.

People start to think that the gay person that they personally know, and have started to accept is more of the exception rather than the rule when it comes to how gay people conduct themselves, and they end up backsliding because of it.
12 days ago - Tuesday 11/7/17 - 10:43:07 AM EST (GMT-5)
Those people are reaching. And wrong.

Do they think all hetero men are like Weinstein? Reaching. Wrong.
12 days ago - Tuesday 11/7/17 - 10:47:42 AM EST (GMT-5)
They are wrong. I just disagree that all are seeking to reinforce their negative opinions rather than seeking to reinforce their positive opinions.

At this point, it's still a real struggle for people to give acceptance to gay people. There are many that want to, but stuff like this makes it more difficult for them to do it.
