WASHINGTON — President Trump has fired the director of the F.B.I., James B. Comey, over his handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails, the White House said on Tuesday.

Mr. Comey was leading an investigation into whether members of the Trump campaign colluded with Russia to influence the 2016 election.

“While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgment of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the bureau,” Mr. Trump said in a letter dated Tuesday to Mr. Comey.

The DAG memo makes some pretty defensible points re: why he should have been fired. The problem is that no one believes for one second they're the real reasons.

This will ramp up the pressure on the AG's office to appoint a special prosecutor on the Russia stuff for sure.

kinda curious how it will affect his approval rating. i don't think it can sink any lower than it already is.

Yes...which is accounted for by his extremely high support among republicans, and basically nobody else.

So sleepy is on the right track here. In order for him to dip much lower, it'll have to be republicans jumping ship. Everybody else already knows he's awful; we're just waiting on you guys to catch up.

Also, I posted this in the Flynn thread, but - -

A federal grand jury has been impaneled in VA and issued a bunch of subpoenas relating to the Flynn misconduct. So they are definitely looking to bring criminal charges in that, if possible.

I still think if his health holds out Trump will be a two term president.
