Does anyone participate in any reading challenges or set goals for the year?

Last year I set a goal of reading a book each week- - 52 for the year. I found myself avoiding some longer books for fear it would put me behind schedule. I still ended up missing the goal- - I had read 51 at the end of the year.

This year, I'm going to set a goal to read at least one long (500 or more pages) book each month.

Seems like a good goal as we are around 100 years since WWI.

If any are particularly interesting (and published in English), please share the titles.

hmm. the ones I already owned are from French writers. There are a few interesting ones in English, but they haven't been translated in French yet.

i want to read in French for a better mindset on vocabulary of the time.
I'm also mostly interested in civilians stories, not battlefield.
But I might give a try to the Leviathan trilogy. (alternate history)

I've read the first- - it's a bit more than 'alternate history' as I believe that the flying machines are living beings (at least some of them)...

It's actually a decent read.

I'll give the 52 book challenge a go. I think I read sufficiently fast enough to take on longer books as well!
3 months ago - Tuesday 1/3/17 - 9:18:26 AM EST (GMT-5)
i've done 50 for the past three years, and that's what i'm doing again (despite putting a ridiculous one on goodreads to be silly )
i'm not that even a reader and some months i'll read like ten books and others none, but i always make it up by the end, and try and do at least a few Big books every year

50 books does seem like a reasonable number, but I'm still sticking with my goal of 36 for this year.

I havent got a set number I want to read but I want to read as many titles in the sf masterworks series as possible.

I won't be able to start until next month so January is being given to one book, Alan Moore's Jerusalem. No idea whwn I'll start it. I'm kind of doing a mental run-up to it.

There are a lot of good titles in the SF Masterworks series. Are you reading them in numerical order?

3 months ago - Thursday 1/5/17 - 11:05:29 AM EST (GMT-5)

I'd like to but I'll probably mix it up. Winging it.

Also, don't know if it counts, but I'm going to start collecting a series marvel are putting out called Epic Collection which reprints a lot of old stuff both well known (Avengers, Spider-Man) and obscure (Moon Knight). I've always wanted a proper marvel library and this seems the most affordable and efficient way to do it.

The first three Dark Tower books. More Stephen King if I can fit them in.
3 months ago - Friday 1/6/17 - 7:48:23 AM EST (GMT-5)
Oh, I'd definitely like to re-read the series if I can before the movie comes out!

joining the 52 challenge.
1 down.
12 months of procrastination to go!

I should also join the 52 week challenge. I've always thought am a pretty slow reader. I especially slow down my pace when am reading an author i love.

I keep buying books that I know I won't read.
My latest purchases include: the His Dark Materials trilogy, The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants trilogy, a book of Twilight Zone stories, and a huge book of Erotica. I'll never read any of them.

I've got boxes in my parents garage and a fair few here too. Not going to get any proper reading done until I am done with the masters though.

Goodreads always asks me to set myself a reading challange. I can't remember how many books I told it I would read this year

My friend has an excercise book in which she's recorded every book she's read, and the dates she read it. I am so jealous of that

I'd like to do one a week. I know I'll never succeed but at least this time I'm going to try.

Well, I'm already 2 months behind woo

But I'll try from today onwards

I also set the goal at 52. I usually surpass it (I love short books!)

The past few years I've also been challenging myself to read a really long book. This year I'm thinking Bleak House.

I'm at 10 books so far this year
1 month ago - Friday 3/3/17 - 7:10:05 AM EST (GMT-5)
I've been wanting to read Bleak House too. I thought I'd already read it, but I was getting it confused with Hard Times
