Anyone got any good recommendations? I'm trying to get back into reading, I haven't finished a book in 6 years, and I thought that maybe trying YA first would be easier.

I don't know. Anything that's quality. Preferably not something relentlessly bleak.

I missed relentlessly bleak....a lot of those are dystopian or post apocalyptic.
I like a good survival story.

For adult reading that's light and fun, I suggest the Southern Vampire series. Lots of paranormal and cryptozoology mixed in with mystery and romance. Not my typical fair, but I really enjoyed them.
I don't normally read or watch romance or mystery.

The tv series True Blood is based off of Southern Vampire series. I didn't like the show, however.

My one daughter who hated to read only finished one book series in her entire life:
The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod
I disliked them.
