Hi.
So. I wanna spend my summer reading.
Does anyone know of any fiction books that are any of the following:
- Tween/ teen/ young adult
- Or adult i guess
- Fantasy
- Creates another world
- Has magic/ or futuristic technology
- Deals with child abuse
- Deals with mental illness
- Is about an orphan
And are not/ does not have:
- Goryness
- lots of action/ shooting
- Anything about war
- Anything where an animal dies
- Anything deeply historical
- anything not in english
If you even THINK i might POSSIBLY have the SLIGHTEST chance of liking it, name it!
I shall look it up My 'not's" are not set in stone. EXCEPT animal death. NO DOGS. Or pets i grow attach to.
I hate cold searching. Its frustrating. I would rather go through a list of 200 books and research them one by one than have to go willy ni

Have you read the Inkheart trilogy? I read them years ago, but they're a teen fantasy/adventure book about a girl whose father can make characters come out of books by reading aloud.
Haha, it sounds kid-ish and stupid just describing the plot but I remember really enjoying them.

Noughts and Crosses is also a good young adult series.

I'm reading them right now! Taking me forever to get through though. I've read like 5 other books while reading that one

"The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time." It doesn't meet ALL your wants, but has only one of your "avoid 'ems" and is an excellent read.

As long as a dog doesn't die, the 'don't' aren't set in stone

It's a fantastic book!!
Inkheart is fabulous... umm... I don't read a lot of contemporary stuff (I'm a classic lit nerd), but I read "The Boy Who Couldn't Sleep and Never Had To" and it was really good. Also "An Invisible Sign" was a very sweet story.

the Neverending Story by Michael Ende. If you haven't read it yet, I'm sure you'll love it.
Artemis Fowl is also pretty good, but a little bit pointless.

Artemis Fowl! I remember reading those books, I still have copies of them. I have absolutely no recollection of what exactly they were about though.
Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli was good, if I recall correctly. Kind of strange.
And Holes by Louis Sachar! Love that book.

Oh, and read Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Doesn't fit many of the criteria, but read it anyway!

The dog is found dead. Determining the cause of death is the mystery, or at least is where the mystery begins to unfold. There's a lot in that book, getting into family issues, disabilities, imperfect people trying to cope with an imperfect world.
