Kind of surprised there isn`t a thread on this already. I loved this series, just finished the final book, Mockingjay. Any other fans on here? Who's Online | Find Members | Private Messages

did anyone take the quiz?
1 yr ago, 1 mos ago - Thursday 3/29/12 - 8:05:36 AM EST (GMT-5)
I took it. I blanked on #14 and #28 completely threw me off - - I don't remember anything about Katniss having a music teacher.

f*ck all these spoilers, someone needs to make a new thread about these books so i can actually read it...

I'm just gonna throw it out that I loved the first book, but I thought the other two books just really dragged. I was flat out bored by the end.

I've heard the same, kay, that it would have been better to end it at the first book. I likely won't bother with the second and third. Too many legitimately good books on my reading list.

Man, I can't believe how many people didn't seem to like the 2nd and 3rd books!

It just seemed like, instead of the story setting out as a trilogy/series (e.g. Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter), she wrote the first book, realized it sold a bazillion copies/got a lot of positive feedback, and then decided "oh hey, I can probably drag this out for another book or two." And it just kind of petered out. It was the game itself that drew me in, so when that was over, I was like... meh, ok.

Petered out...tee hee heeeeeeee

I'm going to play it safe and use a spoiler.
I loved the Quarter Quell in the 2nd book and then the war itself in the 3rd book.

I keep re-reading the entire series cause I can't seem to just read one and then go to something else. And I cannot wait for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th movies.

I SOOOO can't wait to re-read the second book. I just finished the first again

4th movies?

They're following suit with Harry Potter and Twilight and breaking up the last book into 2 movies.

i read somewhere that suzanne collins wasn't going to include a love triangle in the books at all, but she was pressured by the publishers. it would have been such a better (albeit less popular) series without it...

I just finished this series, and I loved it!
Catching Fire was my favorite of the three. I read it all in one sitting. Mockingjay was hard to get into, for me, until around chapter eleven.

Has it been said somewhere that she had no intention of making the other two books? (Catching Fire and Mockingjay)
With the way Hunger Games ended, it seemed as if she had to keep going.
Unless maybe there was pressure from her publishers before she finished Hunger Games, so she changed the ending.

Although, in her blurb in Mockingjay about what brought her to writing these books, she discusses how her father taught her about war and peace and things of that nature. It's that bit alone that really makes me feel as if she always planned on writing an entire series, and not just Hunger Games.
However, I haven't searched around for anymore info on the whole thing, so I might just be way off.

this is pure speculation but it seems possible that she could have intended thg to be a standalone dystopian novel, but someone was like "yeah suzanne this is way too subtle for teenagers, they're just gonna think the fighting is awesome and miss the point entirely"
"oh okay well then i'll just have to shove a revolution down their throats."

I read the first book but i couldn't get into it. I found the whole thing watered down and none of the characters seemed real to me. I honestly didn't care who lived and who died. My time would have been better spent wrestling with my HG Wells and Wilde books.

lets say in Catching Fire there was some other twist in the QQ. It doesn't matter what. And Prim was picked. Katniss would be her mentor. Could that have made for a more exciting story line?
