Herbert Asquith 1852-19281. Asquith was born in Yorkshire and Educated at the City of London and Balliol College, Oxford. In 1886 after having been a lawyer for ten years he was elected liberal MP for East Fife.
Chancellor of the Exchequer
In 1906 the liberals gained power and Sir Henry Campbell Bannerman appointed Asquith the important post of Chancellor of the Exchequer.
Prime Minister
When Campbell Bannerman resigned in 1908 Asquith took over as Prime Minister.
Leadership Qualities
Although he lacked charisma and sometimes was not as dynamic as he could have been he was a quick witted debater, very supported of his ministers and had the ability to sort out the long term implications of a policy.
