Chancellor of the Exchequer
In 1906 the liberals gained power and Sir Henry Campbell Bannerman appointed Asquith the important post of Chancellor of the Exchequer.
When Campbell Bannerman resigned in 1908 Asquith took over as Prime Minister.
Although he lacked charisma and sometimes was not as dynamic as he could have been he was a quick witted debater, very supported of his ministers and had the ability to sort out the long term implications of a policy.
